Wu Aixiang
Biography

Prof. WU Aixiang currently serves as a member of the CPC Standing Committee of USTB, Vice President of USTB, and Ph.D. supervisor. He received his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from the Department of Resource Development of Central South University. Prof. Wu has received numerous honors, including being honored as a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education of the PRC, and won the “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”. He has held the positions of Director of the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Efficient Mining and Safety of Metal Mines, Director of the Mining Association of the Chinese Society of Metals, and member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. His research interests focus on green mining techniques, paste backfill and mining, mechanics of jointed rock masses, and solution mining. He has won 4 second prizes in the National S&T Progress Awards, and 6 outstanding/first-class prizes at both the national and provincial levels; he owns over 20 patents, has authored over 200 academic papers and 4 books in both the Chinese and English languages. Prof. Wu has received a special government subsidy of the State Council, and won many awards including the Baogang Outstanding Teacher Award, and has been named a National Excellent Science and Technology Worker and National Excellent Supervisor of Doctoral Dissertations. Prior to serving at USTB, he worked as the Vice President of the School of Environmental Resources and Architectural Engineering, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Director of the Office of Science and Technology and Director of the Office of the President at Central South University. Since then he has served as the Dean of the School of Civil Resources and Engineering and Executive Vice-President of the Graduate School at USTB.

Since December 2014, Prof. WU has served as the Vice President of USTB.
