The advancement of CFRP depends on continuous innovation driven by real engineering needs. By improving material properties, structural forms and manufacturing processes, our team aims to accelerate the application of CFRP in major projects and provide strong support for the development of lighter, stronger and more durable infrastructure.

Beyond laboratory research,USTB is accelerating the transition of CFRP from scientific exploration to practical engineering application.Compared with conventional materials,CFRP provides significant advantages in reducing self-weight,enhancing durability and improving structural efficiency,making it especially attractive for major civil infrastructure.

LIGHTWEIGHT AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE INNOVATION FOR CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE

Beyond conventional structural materials,the team has made major advances in Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers(CFRP)for civil infrastructure,developing innovative reinforcement technologies and new structural systems for high-performance applications.Their studies have shown that CFRP, with its outstanding strength-to-weight ratio,corrosion resistance and design flexibility,offers an effective route for building lighter,stronger and more durable infrastructure.

Led by YUE Qingrui,a professor at USTB and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the team has promoted the engineering application of CFRP in a wide range of industrial and civil projects. By integrating material innovation,structural design and engineering practice,the researchers have continuously improved the performance, reliability and applicability of CFRP systems, opening up new possibilities for long-span structures and other demanding infrastructure scenarios.

A landmark achievement of the team is the successful application of a newly developed CFRP cable in astadium in Sanya,Hainan Province. Completed in September 2021,the 88,000-square-meter stadium with a large-span space structure became the first of its kind in China to be constructed with CFRP cables. Closely aligned with the demand for high-quality infrastructure, this work reflects Yue's broader vision of advancing modern construction through lightweight materials, structural innovation and continuous engineering-oriented iteration.
