Andrei Chevelev

French-Russian Diplomat | International Relations Expert

With over four decades of experience in international relations, Mr. Andrei Chevelev is a distinguished diplomat who has dedicated his career to advancing global cooperation in education, science, and culture. His work across governmental, multilateral, and academic spheres has significantly contributed to international policy-making and multilateral diplomatic practice.

Mr. Chevelev began his diplomatic career in 1984 with the former Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, later serving as Chief of Office for the Russian Permanent Delegation to UNESCO. In 1997, he joined UNESCO, where he held several key positions including Liaison Officer for Europe and North America, Member of the Director‑General’s Cabinet, and Head of the National Commissions Office.

From 2015 to 2017, he served as Director of the UNESCO Office for Central Asia, overseeing operations in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Between 2017 and 2024, he led the Asia‑Pacific Unit, coordinating the implementation of UNESCO’s strategic programs across the region.
