On November 13, Clarivate Analytics released data for the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI), which showed that USTB’s Biology and Biochemistry discipline has entered the top 1% of global institutional rankings in ESI (referred to as ESI Top 1%) for the first time. This marks the ninth discipline at USTB to achieve ESI Top 1% status, following Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Environment/Ecology, Geosciences, and Social Sciences, representing a new breakthrough in USTB’s disciplinary development.

The trend of the discipline’s potential value over the past five years shows a steady increase, demonstrating strong competitiveness and finally achieving a successful breakthrough in this latest update.

ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is a basic analytical and evaluation tool introduced by Clarivate Analytics to measure scientific research performance and track scientific development trends on a global scale. It is widely used to assess the research performance and disciplinary development levels of universities and research institutions. Based on the Web of Science Core Collection, ESI covers 22 disciplinary fields and is globally recognized as an authoritative standard for evaluating academic performance and impact.
