On October 17, a delegation led by Prof. Karin Vanderkerken, Vice Rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, visited USTB for communication and exchange. Both sides conducted in-depth discussion on joint student cultivation and scientific research cooperation in the medical-engineering field. Prof. JIAO Shuqiang, Vice President of USTB, met with the delegation.

Prof. JIAO Shuqiang extended a warm welcome to the delegation and reviewed the fifteen-year history of cooperation between the two universities. He noted that both sides have continuously consolidated and deepened the connotation of their collaboration. He highlighted USTB’s prominent strengths in fields such as metallurgical engineering, materials science, and medical-engineering interdisciplinary studies, as well as its active exploration in internationalization of higher education in recent years. He expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further expand cooperation between the two universities in frontier fields including materials, artificial intelligence and medical-engineering interdisciplinary, and jointly establish a significant platform for China-Belgium teacher and student exchanges and scientific research collaboration.

Prof. Karin Vanderkerken expressed her gratitude to USTB for the warm reception. She stated that Vrije Universiteit Brussel highly values its partnership with USTB and looks forward to building upon the existing foundation to further promote substantive cooperation in areas of student exchanges, dual degree programs, and joint laboratory construction.

During the meeting, both sides fully exchanged views on joint student cultivation and scientific research cooperation, reaching a preliminary consensus on advancing in-depth collaboration in master’s and doctoral programs between the two universities.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the USTB History Museum and gained a comprehensive understanding of the university’s achievements over the past fifteen years. This visit not only consolidated the existing cooperative outcomes between the two universities but also laid a solid foundation for jointly creating value in the context of integrated development in China-Belgium higher education.
The meeting was presided over by Prof. ZHANG Bowei, Associate Director of the Office of International Affairs. Relevant personnel from the Office of International Affairs, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the School of Computer and Communication Engineering attended the meeting.
