On January 19, a delegation led by Carlos Alba, Head of AI and Digital R&D of ArcelorMittal, visited USTB for academic and industrial exchange. ZHANG Dalin,Vice Chancellor, attended the symposium. The meeting was chaired by WANG Xiaochen, Associate Dean of the Institute for Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation.

The Meeting Scene
Prof. ZHANG Dalin extended a warm welcome to the ArcelorMittal delegation and introduced the university’s disciplinary strengths and research directions in fields such as metallurgy, materials science, and safety engineering. He expressed the hope that both sides would further practical cooperation in scientific research breakthroughs and talent development, establish an innovation chain spanning “industry-academia-research-application”, expand talent cultivation models, and jointly enhance the international influence of both parties in the steel industry. Such collaboration, ZHANG noted, would inject strong momentum into the high-end, intelligent, and green transformation of the global steel industry.
Mr. Carlos Alba expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highly commended the university’s innovation capabilities in steel-related research and its talent development models. He pointed out the promising prospects for cooperation between the two sides in fields such as metallurgical engineering, safety engineering, and artificial intelligence. Mr.Alba hoped that ArcelorMittal would further leverage the university’s research capabilities and collaborative experience to drive technological breakthroughs, while also attracting top-tier talents to empower industry development and promote the high-quality advancement of the steel sector.
