On September 17, Prof. ZHANG Weidong, Vice President of USTB, was invited to attend the 11th Asia-Pacific Energy Sustainable Development Forum held in Yinchuan. This forum, guided by organizations and departments such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Energy Administration, is an annual high-end forum dedicated to discussing energy security and sustainable development, enjoying significant international influence. For the first time, USTB served as one of the co-organizers and hosted a sub-forum titled “Energy Transition Drives High-Quality Development of Fossil Energy Enterprises”.

Speech by Prof. ZHANG Weidong
On behalf of the sub-forum organizers, Prof. ZHANG Weidong introduced the work and research achievements of USTB in the field of energy sustainable development. He elaborated on USTB’s efforts to advance disciplinary construction by implementing President XI Jinping’s energy security strategy of “four revolutions and one cooperation”.
During the forum, Prof. FENG Yanhui, Associate Dean of the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering at USTB, delivered a speech titled “Research on Multi-Mode Industrial Energy Storage Technologies and Applications”, introducing multi-medium, multi-scenario, large-scale, and mobile industrial energy storage technologies. Prof. SU Wei shared his views on “Current Situations and Prospects of CCUS in the Steel Industry”, introducing carbon dioxide utilization ways in the steel industry and the “6C-System” CCUS framework. Associate Professor CAO Dongyuan from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences provided an overview of Chinese policies, which facilitated energy industry transformation, interpreting the legal and policy frameworks in China’s energy transition.
This conference fully showcased USTB’s outstanding practices in promoting innovative and green, low-carbon development in the steel industry, as well as its significant contributions to interdisciplinary research combining humanities and social sciences with metallurgy and materials sciences. It garnered enthusiastic attention from domestic and international experts, scholars, and local industrial parks, laying a solid foundation for further collaboration between the university, local governments, and enterprises.
