On June 10, Scott Dewar, Ambassador of Australia to China, and his delegation visited our university. YANG Renshu, President of the university; MAO Xinping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality; and JIAO Shuqiang, Vice President of the university, attended the meeting. The symposium was chaired by Vice President JIAO Shuqiang.
Remarks by President YANG Renshu
Yang Renshu introduced the university’s historical development, educational characteristics, and progress in internationalization, stating that the university is willing to engage in exchanges with Australian universities and research institutions in areas such as clean energy technologies and green metallurgy, and jointly address global challenges faced by humanity.
Symposium at the Institute of Carbon Neutrality
Subsequently, Ambassador Scott Dewar, accompanied by Academician MAO Xinping, visited the laboratory of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and held a friendly meeting and discussion with the “Advanced Steel Materials and Low-Carbon Manufacturing” research team. MAO Xinping stated that China’s steel industry has developed a clear technological roadmap for achieving carbon neutrality, and that the institute’s team will focus in the future on the “high-value utilization of recycled steel materials,” and is willing to work with the international community to further explore green and low-carbon technological transformation and applications in the steel industry.

This visit further strengthened exchanges between the Embassy of Australia in China and the university. The university will continue to thoroughly implement the important reply spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping, and promote the building of world-class universities and an education powerhouse through high-quality international exchanges and cooperation, making important contributions from USTB toward achieving the “dual carbon” goals.
