The First International Symposium on Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering Held at USTB

Jun 30 ,2025

To further enhance the domestic and international influence and reputation of the university’s first-class discipline of “Mining Engineering” and the newly established high-level journal Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering (English Edition), and to provide a high-level academic exchange platform for scholars worldwide in response to the frontier development of mining engineering, the First International Symposium on Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering was held on June 29.

The symposium was jointly organized by the University Journal Center, the School of Resources and Safety Engineering, and the editorial office of Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering (English Edition). More than 200 experts and scholars from across China’s mining engineering field attended the event, including Academicians PENG Suping, WANG Guofa, and WU Aixiang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician LIU Qingxia of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, USTB President YANG Renshu, Vice President PENG Qinghong, and other distinguished participants.

Remarks by President YANG Renshu

YANG Renshu introduced the historical development of the university and its mining engineering discipline to the attending experts. He pointed out that promoting mining engineering toward safer, more efficient, cleaner, and more intelligent development is an important mission in serving China’s high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and building a modern society in which humans and nature coexist harmoniously. Centered on China’s “dual carbon” goals and the requirements for high-quality development of the mining industry, the university has vigorously advanced disciplinary integration and innovation, proactively laid out frontier research directions, built a number of high-level scientific research platforms, and achieved a series of influential innovative results. He emphasized that the university attaches great importance to academic journal development and is committed to building Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering (English Edition) into a high-level, open international academic exchange platform. He further stressed that the symposium represents an important initiative to promote the green and intelligent transformation of mining engineering, jointly building a high-end platform for intellectual exchange, technological integration, and talent interaction, and contributing wisdom and strength to the safe, green, intelligent, and sustainable development of global mining.

MIAO Shengjun, Dean of the School of Resources and Safety Engineering, delivered a journal report on behalf of Green and Intelligent Mining Engineering (English Edition). He introduced the journal from three aspects—its founding background, progress, and future outlook—highlighting its efforts since inception to actively practice the spirit of “innovation-driven journal development,” serve disciplinary construction, and strive to become a world-class academic journal.

Presentation by Academician WANG Guofa

Presentation by Academician LIU Qingxia

During the keynote session, Academicians WANG Guofa and LIU Qingxia delivered keynote reports entitled “Development and Prospects of Digital-Intelligent Technologies in Mining” and “Some Research and Reflections on Green and Intelligent Mineral Processing,” respectively. WANG Guofa systematically elaborated on the development path of digital and intelligent transformation in mining from technical architecture, application scenarios, to future trends, providing significant guidance for high-quality development of the mining industry. LIU Qingxia vividly interpreted the scientific essence and practical value of green and intelligent mineral processing from fundamental theoretical innovation to engineering applications, offering important insights for efficient and clean utilization of resources.

During the symposium, 11 experts from China and abroad, includingXIE Yuling、Lujun Zhang、HE Xueqiu、Junlong Shang、Mohsen Yahyaei, delivered presentations covering key topics such as geological exploration, mine safety, intelligent mining, deep rock mechanics, green mineral processing, mineral functional materials, and carbon dioxide mineralization and storage. Discussions focused on frontier theories and technologies in strategic mineral deposit modeling, mineral geochemical exploration, intelligent mine safety warning systems, intelligent mining operations, development and utilization of strategic mineral resources, resource recycling and utilization, and carbon neutrality.

At the opening ceremony, three international students of the university—Yuxuan, Baoshan, and Xuyang—performed the song “The World in Unity.” An award ceremony for outstanding papers of Green and IntelligentMining Engineering (English Edition) was also held during the conference.
