From May 15 to 18, the 2025 Beijing International Model United Nations Conference (BIMUN 2025) was held in Beijing. SUN Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres sent a congratulatory video message to the conference. Faculty and students from our university were invited to attend the opening ceremony and committee sessions.
SUN Weidong stated that Model United Nations activities in China have been continuously improving in quality, expanding in reach, and achieving increasingly positive outcomes. The original aspirations and blueprint from 30 years ago, when MUN activities were first introduced, are now gradually becoming vivid and dynamic practice. He encouraged students to stand at the forefront of the times and contribute youthful strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; to embrace the ideal of a community with a shared future for mankind and demonstrate youthful responsibility in building it; and to jointly pursue global aspirations, showcasing youthful wisdom in exchanges and mutual learning among world civilizations.
With the theme of “30 Years of Model United Nations in China,” this year’s conference was jointly guided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and hosted by the China Foreign Affairs University. Nearly 700 Chinese and international teachers and students from about 160 universities and secondary schools across 30 countries and regions participated in the event. Faculty and student representatives from our university were invited to attend the “Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting,” where they examined multiple challenges facing current scientific activities in Antarctica and jointly developed feasible solutions to achieve a balance between scientific exploration and ecological protection.
University of Science and Technology Beijing has consistently actively participated in global governance under the framework of the United Nations and has built high-quality platforms for youth exchange. The “University of Science and Technology Beijing Model United Nations Conference” has been successfully held for three consecutive sessions since 2021. It is committed to cultivating global governance talents with a strong sense of national responsibility and international vision, professional competence and foreign language proficiency, as well as core competencies and core values, thereby continuously enhancing the university’s international influence and showcasing the youthful spirit of USTB students on the global stage.
