On July 6, Verna Yiu, Provost and Vice-President of the University of Alberta, Canada; Cen Huang, Vice-Provost and Vice-President; and Xiaoting Li, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts, led a delegation to visit the Shunde Innovation Institute of University of Science and Technology Beijing, where they held a symposium to discuss the deepening of cooperation. WANG Luning, Vice President of the university, and the leadership team of the Shunde Innovation Institute attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by HE Xinbo.
Symposium and exchange
WANG Luning reviewed his academic experience at the University of Alberta and expressed his continued attention to the development of his alma mater. He systematically introduced the university’s overall development, disciplinary strengths, and achievements in international cooperation and exchanges, as well as the innovative practices and significant outcomes of the Shunde Innovation Institute in serving regional economic and social development. He stated that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation between the two universities in areas such as faculty and student exchanges and joint scientific research, and to jointly explore collaborative innovation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence.
Verna Yiu provided a detailed introduction to the University of Alberta’s overall situation and strategic direction. She stated that internationalization is an important element of the University of Alberta’s “Shape the Future” strategy. Building on the solid foundation of cooperation with USTB, the university will make full use of the unique geographical advantages of the Shunde Innovation Institute in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area to further expand and deepen cooperation in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, professional development programs for teachers, and joint student internships and practical training, with the aim of jointly cultivating innovative talents with an international perspective.
Visit to the university history museum
During the visit, the delegation conducted an on-site inspection of the institute’s history museum and key laboratories, gaining a deeper understanding of its educational philosophy, development history, research platforms, and contributions to regional development.
