The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) co-hosted the CAE International Symposium on Engineering Science and Technology and the 6th International Seminar on Paste Backfill in China, held in Kunming, Yunnan, from October 26 to 29. Themed “International Cooperation on Green Mining under the Belt and Road Initiative”, the symposium brought together 22 academicians, alongside experts and industry representatives from 22 countries, and featured 66 academic presentations on safe, green and intelligent mining.

Keynote speeches and a roundtable discussion brought together Chinese and international experts to discuss green mining, paste backfill innovation, intelligent mining technology and mine safety. Topics also included sustainable mineral extraction and international talent cultivation for the mining sector.

A dedicated session on paste backfill reviewed the technical evolution in China and explored future directions for next-generation technologies. Participants presented the latest advances and exchanged views on paste rheology, mechanical properties of backfill materials, pipeline transportation and intelligent control. During the conference, 69 Chinese and international experts visited the paste backfill station at Huize Mining Branch, Yunnan Chihong Zn & Ge Co., Ltd., under China Copper, to learn about its practical applications.

The symposium offered an important platform for international academic exchange and scientific cooperation. The event also highlighted USTB’s commitment to advancing international collaboration in mineral science, translating research outcomes into practical mining solutions, and promoting safer and more sustainable mining practices.
