USTB Holds Alumni Homecoming Events

On April 18, the 20th graduation anniversary gathering for the Class of 2006, themed “Twenty Years of Tempering into Steel, A Lifelong Bond with Manjing,” was held at the Gymnasium. On April 19, the 30th graduation anniversary gathering for the Class of 1996, themed “Thirty Years Through Wind and Rain, A Lifelong Bond with USTB,” was also held at the Gymnasium. University leaders joined more than 3,000 alumni from the Classes of 1996 and 2006, together with their families, for the events.

XU Xiaoping, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to alumni of the Class of 1996. She introduced USTB's recent achievements in serving national needs, strengthening its educational capacity, deepening talent cultivation, and developing the Xiong'an Campus. She noted that the alma mater cherishes the youthful years of its alumni, follows their journeys of endeavor, and wishes them a bright future. She encouraged alumni to return often and contribute their wisdom and strength to building a world-class university with distinctive strengths. USTB, she said, will continue to embrace every cherished bond and honor rooted in Manjing with the warmth and sincerity of "home".


LYU Zhaoping extended a warm welcome to returning alumni of the Class of 2006. Focusing on talent cultivation, discipline development, and scientific and technological innovation, he gave a comprehensive overview of USTB’s remarkable progress in recent years and introduced the latest development of the Xiong’an Campus. He expressed the hope that alumni would continue to care for and support the university’s development and jointly promote USTB’s “Double First-Class” development.


Former President YANG Tianjun warmly welcomed alumni back to campus and fondly recalled their youthful years of rigorous study and bold practice at USTB. He spoke highly of alumni for taking on responsibilities in various fields and serving national development through solid work, bringing honor to their alma mater. He encouraged them to keep striving, contribute to national development, and return often to support USTB.


Former President XU Jinwu fondly recalled the youth and precious memories of the Class of 2006 at USTB, expressing pride in their outstanding achievements across different sectors. He sincerely thanked alumni for their contributions to national development, encouraged them to continue striving for new accomplishments in their respective positions, and warmly invited them to return often.


Alumni representatives LI Ming from Metallurgy Class 92.3, HU Xiaodong from Physical Chemistry Class 92, and FENG Yanhui from Thermal Engineering Class 92.2 spoke in turn. As leaders in their respective fields, they have remained true to USTB’s fine traditions of rigorous scholarship and commitment to practice. Working on the front lines of building China’s strength in steel, advancing computing power, and fostering virtue through education, they have kept their original aspirations unchanged over the past three decades. With the dedication and sense of mission of USTB graduates, they have forged ahead with perseverance and integrated their personal endeavors into national development and rejuvenation.


Alumni representatives YANG Yuchao from Materials Physics Class 02.2, ZHANG Zilin from Business Administration Class 02.1, WANG Zhongyi from Metallurgy Class 02.4, and YAN Xuemei from Law Class 02.3 also delivered remarks. Drawing on their experiences in frontier regions, Qinghai assistance programs, and scientific research, they shared reflections on their work and growth over the past two decades. They expressed gratitude for the spiritual inspiration of USTB's motto, “Seeking Truth and Promoting Innovation,” and demonstrated the commitment of USTB graduates to integrating personal ideals into national development.
