On the morning of December 4, the fourth council and the third academic committee meeting of Research Center for Science, Technology and Civilization, USTB was held in Techart Plaza. Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB, and Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB, attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Prof. ZHANG Jianliang, Secretary General of the Party Committee at School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering.

The experts invited to this conference include Mr. CHAI Xiaoming, President of the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage; Mr. HUANG Xizhuan, former Director and Mr. ZHOU Weirong, Director of the China Numismatic Museum; Mr. LIU Dun, Mr. ZHANG Bochun, former Directors, Mr. GUAN Xiaowu and Mr. FANG Yibing, Deputy Directors of The Institute for the History of Natural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

First of all, Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB delivered a speech on behalf of the university and expressed a warm welcome to the directors and members of Academic Committee. He briefly introduced the basic situation of the Research Center for Science, Technology and Civilization, USTB in 2021 to the guests and expressed the support from the university to the Center.

Subsequently, Mr. QIAN Wei, Dean of Research Center for Science, Technology and Civilization, USTB made detailed working report, he introduced the achievements and shortcomings of the Center in the fields of discipline construction, faculty, talent training, scientific research, social services and academic exchanges in 2021, and made a plan and outlook on the work priorities in 2022 with the background of the new round of "Double First-Class" initiative. Mr. LI Yanxiang, Mr. HAN Liuyang and Mr. HU Su also reported on their research progress on behalf of the faculties in the Center.

Mr. MEI Jianjun, the Head of the Center's Academic Committee, who was in the UK and could not attend the meeting due to the epidemic, congratulated the Center via video on the achievements and gains of the past year. In addition, he put forward his opinions and suggestions in terms of implementing academic cooperation agreements and supporting young people's scientific growth.

The participants spoke in turn, on the one hand fully affirming the achievements of the Center in the past year and expressing their expectations for the future development of the Center, especially the Center's think-tank; on the other hand, from the actual situation of the Center, they pointed out the current opportunities and challenges faced by the Center and put forward many constructive suggestions.

After listening carefully to the suggestions of the experts, Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB made a concluding speech. On behalf of USTB, he expressed his gratitude to the experts for their concern and support for the work of the Center and congratulated the Center for its achievements in the past year. He said that the achievements of the center are inseparable from the long-term support of the experts, and USTB will continue to provide strong support for the development of the center in terms of faculty, academic exchanges, office space, etc. He also hoped that the experts will continue to give care and guidance, and jointly promote the construction of the center to a new level.
