On the morning of September 10^th, the double-appointment ceremony of Prof. WANG Yaonan and the Beijing high-precision subject Master Forum on artificial intelligence was grandly held in the Jianlong Lecture Hall. Robotics and Intelligent control expert, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Prof. WANG Yaonan, Prof. YANG Renshu, the President of the USTB and Mr. ZHANG Weidong, the vice president of the USTB attended the event. Before the start of the event, Mr. WU Guilong, the Chancellorof the school, Prof. YANG Renshu, and Mr. ZHANG Weidong cordially met with Prof. WANG Yaonan.

At the appointment ceremony, Prof. YANG Renshu, on behalf of the USTB, expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Prof. WANG Yaonan for joining us! He said that artificial intelligence is a strategic technology leading a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, and it is having a great and far-reaching impact on economic and social developmen and international political and economic patterns. He pointed out that the school is one of the earliest universities in China to conduct artificial intelligence research. As early as the 1970s and 1980s, Prof. TU Xuyan and Prof. YU Datai had made outstanding contributions in the field of artificial intelligence. In 2007, the school opened the undergraduate major of “Intelligent Science and Technology”. In 2018, it also opened two new undergraduate majors, “Artificial Intelligence” and “Robot Engineering”, and established the Institute of Artificial Intelligence. In 2019, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence became independent of the school. As a secondary institution, artificial intelligence was selected as a high-precision subject in Beijing's colleges and universities, which promoted the integrated development of school artificial intelligence and related disciplines. Subsequently, Prof. YANG Renshu issued a letter of appointment to Prof. WANG Yaonan.

After the appointment ceremony, Prof. WANG Yaonan gave a report on “Key Technologies and Development Trends of Intelligent Autonomous Robots”. He introduced the actual development and future trends of autonomous robots from the aspects of research background and significance, research status and challenges, and key technologies. He said that as a robot system with both intelligent autonomy and active operation capabilities, intelligent robots have a wide range of applications in the fields of industrial intelligent manufacturing, precision agriculture, national defense and military, and space exploration.

After the lecture, Prof. WANG Yaonan visited some laboratories of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer and Communication Engineering, and the National Science Center, and had discussions and exchanges with some representatives of teachers and students.
