School Leaders Focus on Epidemic Prevention and Control Measures and Graduate Employment

USTB attaches great importance to epidemic prevention and control and the employment of graduates. From June 15 to 17, university authorities conducted an investigation of the 18 schools and graduate training units of USTB through field visits, holding in-person discussions and online meetings, so as to promote the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures and graduate employment.

On the morning of June 15, Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, visited the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering and the Donlinks School of Economics and Management. Mr. WU pointed out that it is necessary to fully understand the complexity and severity of the epidemic, and make concerted efforts to carry out targeted measures. He stressed that promoting employment is not only a national plan, but also integral to people’s livelihoods. USTB should earnestly work to ensure graduate employment, providing both real-time attention and guidance to departing students. USTB should do everything possible to expand its employment network while effectively implementing employment services, so as to ensure high-quality jobs for graduates. He stressed that it was necessary to work hard in arranging the graduation and employment of USTB’s students, so as to fully reflect the university’s care for its graduates.

On the morning of June 16, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, conducted an online supervision of the School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Material Science and Engineering, Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology and State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials. Prof. YANG pointed out that the challenge of ensuring epidemic prevention and control measures were carried out should be the driving force for university reform and development, and talent training ability should be further promoted. The university should adhere to bottom-line thinking, student-oriented principles, and do a good job in the employment of graduates while following the overall situation of the epidemic and ensure the safety and health of teachers and students. He stressed that USTB should stick to the principles of “planning for the overall situation, making long-term goals, and implementing innovative models”, based on the development of the university as a “double first-class” institution. Finally, USTB should maintain the high quality of graduates, educational standards and employment results, so as to fully benefit students, parents and society.

The university authorities conducted in-depth meetings with the heads of all the schools and graduate training units, stating that the impact of the COVID-19 should be fully taken into account, the work of epidemic prevention and control should be conscientiously done, and that all work should be carried out in an orderly manner. USTB should firmly implement the decision-making and deployment of the higher authorities, tap into the resources of its teachers, alumni, cooperative enterprises and peer institutions, carry out employment assistance for graduates, educate and guide graduates to make full use of national policies, and seize all job opportunities while applying for employment. Officials should do a good job in recruiting university graduates into various fields, employing them as scientific research assistants, and enrolling students for further. Finally, USTB should support graduates to achieve diversified employment in various ways.

The relevant heads of each school and graduate training unit reported their work progress and future work plans to the university authorities. Heads of the Department of Admissions & Career Services, Office of the Party, Office of the President and other departments assisted in the investigatory work.
