USTB Chancellor WU Guilong and President YANG Renshu Attend China Scholarship Council Symposium

On the morning of May 27th, Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, and Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, led a delegation to attend a symposium hosted by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for the purpose of further implementing the spirit of President XI's letter of reply to the Pakistani students studying at USTB and advancing the internationalization of education at USTB. Mr. SHENG Jianxue, Secretary General of the CSC, attended the symposium.

Mr. WU Guilong gave a systematic introduction of the multi-dimensional and wide-ranging development of USTB. He said that USTB would further study and implement XI's exposition on education and the spirit of his reply letter. With the support of the CSC, USTB would undertake educational exchanges and cooperation, serve the Community Party and the nation by making constant progress in internationalization and the enhancement of international students education. Under the leadership of the CSC, USTB would endeavor to deliver great results. Keeping in mind XI's instructions, USTB would double its efforts in sharing China’s story and developing into a first-class university.

Prof. YANG Renshu added that USTB had educated more than 8,400 international students from 165 foreign countries and territories, and produced a number of outstanding international alumni, including Ruslan Tulenov acclaimed by President XI as the messenger of friendship between China and Kazakhstan. USTB has applied for various projects funded by the CSC, and with its guidance, has made great progress in its internationalization efforts. In the future, USTB will also continue to promote key CSC internationalization projects. In so doing it would continue to cultivate outstanding undergraduate students and recruit more international students who are familiar with and friendly to China while building a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) education community.

Mr. SHENG Jianxue said that XI's reply demonstrated his high regard for education, the value of life and the responsibility for building a community for the shared future of humanity. Adhering to the tradition of "fostering virtue and nurturing people, and developing the country through science and education", USTB had made remarkable achievements in the education of international students as well as international cooperation and exchange. The CSC will continue to support USTB to accelerate its development into a world-class university, and in particular help to make it a world-class education and research center for materials and metallurgy disciplines. He expressed great optimism in USTB’s ability to achieve these lofty goals.

Prof. FENG Qiang, Director of the Office of International Affairs, USTB, introduced the situation of the education of international students as well as international cooperation and exchange. In addition, the heads of the relevant departments of the CSC spoke with the USTB delegation on how to improve the quantity and quality of internationalization projects.

The symposium was a fruitful effort in actively implementing the spirit of XI's reply and the basic tasks of fostering virtue and nurturing people. It is of far-reaching significance to further promote international cooperation and exchange and improve the quality of international students education. In the face of the new opportunities and challenges of internationalization, USTB will answer the call of "building a community for the shared future of humanity" and respond proactively to the BRI. USTB will also continue promoting cooperation between industries, universities and R&D institutes, and improving the quality of education internationalization so as to accelerate its development into a "double first-class university" while serving the country in the pursuit of its goals.
