Prof. LIU Xinhua Awarded the 2019 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the list of the 2019 National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars. Among them, Prof. LIU Xinhua from the Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology, USTB, was awarded.

The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars is a fund for outstanding young science and technology talents in China. The Fund aims to support scholars under the age of 45 who have made significant achievements in research, so as to promote the growth of young scientific talents, attract overseas talents, and foster a group of outstanding academic leaders at the forefront of world science and technology. Applications for the Fund are evaluated once a year. A total of 296 scholars are awarded.

Prof. LIU is a professor at USTB. His research expertise concerns advanced fabrication and processing technology of high-performance metallic materials. He has also advanced new ideas in controlled solidification and controlled forming for compact-process fabrication and processing of advanced metallic materials, and has made great innovative achievements in fundamental research and engineering applications of the above technologies for copper/aluminum bimetal materials, copper alloys, and rare precious metals etc., which have been widely applied in industrial production.

Prof. LIU was elected as both a Leading Talent of Science and Technology Innovation and Youth Leading Talent of Science and Technology Innovation by the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has published over 50 papers collected in the SCI/EI database, and has been granted 30 Chinese patents. He won second prize of the National Technological Invention Award, second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and 4 first prizes at the provincial- and ministerial-level. He has formulated one ASTM international standard and two Chinese national standards. He is a member of ASTM International, Senior Member of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials and a member of the Youth Council of the Nonferrous Metals Society of China.
