Prof. Oleg Leonidovich Kuznetsov, President of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN), and Prof. Л·В· Ivanitskaya, Chief Scientific Secretary of RAEN, sent a certificate and a letter of congratulations to Prof. JI Hongguang on his election as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1990 and recognized by the United Nations in 1995. It is one of the top three cross-industry academic authorities in Russia. Its members are scientists and experts who have made significant achievements in the fields of natural science and humanities and have important academic influence. The Academy has 24 academic departments, with 18 Nobel laureates, more than 270 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), and more than 30 academicians of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The RAEN have outstanding scientists from 48 countries worldwide, including many academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

The selection process of members of the RAEN requires a comprehensive investigation of the candidates' academic achievements and influence, as well as their status in relevant fields. Through the process of academician recommendation, material review, investigation, expert defense, voting and election of the academic department, deliberation of the presidium, and through several rounds of strict academic evaluation and selection procedures, the candidates are finally reviewed and determined by the presidium of the RAEN. Given the outstanding achievements and academic contributions made by Professor JI Hongguang in the fields of deep mine construction, deep resource development, and deep mining power disaster prevention and control, the RAEN finally selected him as a foreign academician in the Ministry of Mining and Metallurgy.

Dr. Prof. JI Hongguang is a professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the USTB School of Civil and Resource Engineering. Prof. JI is a Leading Scholar in the “USTB Scholars” program and a recipient of the special government allowances of the State Council. He is currently the Executive Associate Dean of the USTB Institute of Deep Rock Engineering, the Director of the Urban Underground Space Engineering Laboratory, the Deputy Director of the National Engineering Research Center of Mining and Deep Well Construction Technology, and the leader of the National 13th Five-Year Plan Key Research Project. He is also the Director of the Underground Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics (CSEME), the Standing Director of the Engineering Blasting Society of China, a member of the Professional Committee on Earthquake and Crustal Stress, CSRME; as well as a Senior member and Director pf the China Coal Society (CCS).

Prof. JI Hongguang has long been devoted to scientific research and teaching in the fields of theory of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering, urban underground space engineering and deep underground engineering, deep mining dynamic disasters and prevention and control technology, etc. He has won the National Second Prize for Science and Technology Progress for 3 times, Provincial and Ministerial Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress for 2 times, 4 First Class Awards, and more than 10 Second-prize Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards. He has been granted more than 20 national invention patents. He has published more than 150 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals and conferences, published four academic monographs, and cultivated more than 150 graduate students.
