To celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day of 2021 and to better enhance the awareness of intellectual property protection, brand building and quality improvement of small and medium-sized micro technology enterprises, Yantai Science Park of USTB held the 2nd Intellectual Property Forum on April 29th under the theme of “Enterprise Intellectual Property Protection and Quality Brand Building”. After extensively conducting a wide collection of enterprises’ needs prior to the forum, the Yantai Science Park specially invited major experts from the capital’s intellectual property research and practice fields, and China’s inspection and certification authorities to provide on-site diagnosis service to solve intellectual property rights, testing and certifications, solving “complicated diseases” in IP inspection and certification process.
On behalf of Yantai Intellectual Property Center, USTB, Prof. ZHANG Wujun signed the IP S trategic C ooperation A greements with three enterprises, consisting of Shandong Xinghui Aviation Hydraulic Co.,Ltd., Yantai Bearing Instrument Co.,Ltd. and Yantai Yixing Lock Equipment Co.,Ltd.
In his keynote speech, Mr. XU Jiali pointed out protection of corporate intellectual property rights should be fortified in advance, paying special attention to risk avoidance, setting up a management mechanism for R&D results, strengthening risk management for reverse engineering, and respecting counterparty’s business secrets.
In his address, Mr. LE Fenpeng suggested that Yantai enterprises should focus on IP’s standards, metrology, inspection and certification process, and pointed out that China, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, will emphasize more on those aspects, and enhance independent innovation capabilities to provide consumers with better quality services.
Ms. WANG Runhua, a registered attorney in New York State and an associate professor of USTB, explained in detail the types and differences of how to apply for overseas patent applications with her rich and practical experiences. She noted the advantages and disadvantages of different patent application methods: “no priority” is for a direct application, “Paris Convention” is a fast and time-efficient application process, and “PCT” has a long priority retention time but currently requires a relatively high subsidies.
This IP Forum Session this year has continued the characteristic of first-event corporate visits and diagnosis. During the event, experts visited Yantai equipment manufacturing and marine fishery enterprises in two groups, and offered a variety of pertinent suggestions. Those enterprises expressed high appreciation and attained many benefits from those professional services.
