Recently, the Asia Steel 2024 conference was held in Changsha, Hunan Province, at which the ceremony of certificate presentation was held for Fellows of the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM Fellow).
Founded in 1956, the Chinese Society for Metals is the most influential academic organization of science and technology in the field of Metallurgical Materials. The honorary CSM Fellows have been electing since 2023, which is the highest academic honor CSM bestows on its members. The honor is designed to reward CSM members who have made outstanding achievements in scientific research and technological development in Metallurgical Materials or have made prominent contributions to CSM. In 2023, CSM awarded 22 academicians as the first batch of CSM Fellows, and 6 of them are from USTB. In 2024, 15 remarkable members of CSM were elected to be CSM Fellows. Presently, among the 37 CSM Fellows, 9 are from USTB.
Introduction of new CSM Fellows:
Prof. WU Aixiang
Prof. WU Aixiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of USTB, he has been committed to researching green mining theory and technology & engineering the application of metal mines. Prof. WU has undertaken over 100 national, provincial, and ministerial-level and university-enterprise cooperation projects. He has published more than 300 papers, authorized more than 60 patents at home and abroad, published 6 monographs in Chinese and English, and formulated two national standards. He won four Second Class National Science and Technology Progress Prizes, the 3rd National Innovation Award, 2 special Provincial and Ministerial Level Prizes, and 7 First Class Prizes.
Prof. ZHU Rong
Prof. ZHU Rong, a second-degree professor of USTB and the Director of the National Key Laboratory of Green Low Carbon Steel Iron Metallurgy, he has been committed to education and scientific research in green mild steel iron metallurgy. He has undertaken more than 100 national, provincial, and ministerial level and school-enterprise cooperation projects. He has published more than 200 papers, authorized more than 100 patents at home and abroad, published 9 monographs, and formulated 1 national standard and 8 industry standards. He obtained 4-second prizes in National Science and Technology Progress (3 of them ranked first), the first National Innovation Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 provincial and ministerial special prize, and 8 first prizes.
Prof. YANG Renshu
Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Vice President of China Society of Explosives and China Association of Work Safety, he has been committed to basic theory and application technology research in Rock Blasting. Prof. YANG has undertaken over 50 national, provincial, and ministerial level and school-enterprise cooperation projects. He has published more than 130 papers, authorized more than 40 national patents, and published 4 monographs. He obtained 1 Second-Class Prize of National Technological Invention, 3 second-class Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress, 1 second-class Prize of National Teaching Achievement Award, and more than 10 first-class prizes at the provincial and ministerial level.
