Recently, the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) issued the Decision on the 11th China Metallurgical Youth Science and Technology Award . Prof. YANG Shufeng and Prof. DONG Chaofang of USTB won the 11th Metallurgical Youth Science and Technology Award.
Prof. YANG Shufeng, PhD, professor at School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering. He has long been committed to teaching and scientific research on the improvement of the metallurgical quality of high-grade special steels and alloys. He has innovated and developed the control theory of inclusions in steel, developed a new technology for low-superheat and constant-temperature casting of molten steel, and systematically optimized the melting and casting process of high-quality superalloys. He has undertaken more than 70 projects such as “Excellent Young Scientists Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China”, “Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China”, “Rapid Transformation Project of Equipment Development Department”, and “the University-Enterprise Cooperation Research Project”, etc. Prof. YANG has applied for 48 invention patents and 38 have been granted. He is also a member of the editorial board of Metallurgical & Materials Transactions B and Iron and Steel journals, young editorial board member of International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials , Journal of Iron and Steel Research (Chinese and English edition), Acta Metallurgica Sinica and other journals, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Electrometallurgy Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals. He has won two Science Research Famous Achievement Awards in Higher Education Institution, and three awards in Scientific and Technological Progress at other provincial and ministerial levels. He was awarded the title of “Excellent Class Tutor” by the university, and the 19th “I Love My Teacher” award-winning teacher of professional courses, and “Advanced Research Worker” by the college for two consecutive years in USTB.
Prof. DONG Chaofang, PhD, professor at the Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology (IAMT) and Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering of USTB. She is also the associate director of the National Materials Corrosion and Protection Data Center and the Key Laboratory of Corrosion and Protection of the Ministry of Education. She is mainly engaged in corrosion integration calculation, interface micro-zone corrosion mechanism and efficient evaluation, rational design, and performance regulation of corrosion-resistant materials, etc. She has been exploring in data-driven protection technologies and made active contributions to the development of the whole chain of “computational guidance - experimental verification - engineering demonstration” for corrosion-resistant metals. Prof. DONG has presided over more than 30 projects including National Key R&D Projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, and other enterprise cooperation projects. She has 23 authorized invention patents, 2 U.S. patents, and 2 software copyrights. She is also a standing director at the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection. In 2009, she was selected into the Beijing Science and Technology New Star program; in 2011, she was selected into the Ministry of Education (MOE) Supported Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University; in 2012, she won the MOE Fok Ying Tung Young Teacher Award; in 2012, she was funded by the National Excellent Youth Fund; in 2017, she was selected as the chief scientist of the National Key R&D Program; in 2020, she was selected into the Taishan Industrial Leading Talents of Shandong Province. Prof. DONG has won one second prize in National Science and Technology Progress Award and five first prizes in Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards.
Established by the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), the “Metallurgical Youth Science and Technology Award” is for young science workers under the age of 45, selected once a year, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the scientific and technological work of the industry. The aim of setting up the award is to promote scientific and technological progress in the field of metallurgy and materials and to stimulate the innovative vitality and potential of young talents.
