USTB-DMU Confucius Institute's First Chinese Kung Fu Class for Children Concluded in the Leicester Gallery

On 21 August 2021, USTB-DMU Confucius Institute's first attempt at a Chinese Kung Fu summer class for local children concluded in the Leicester Gallery as planned. The six-week martial arts program is the second successful partnership between the Confucius Institute and the Leicester International Taijiquan and Shaolin Wushu Association. Back in 2017, the Confucius Institute initiated Leicester's first free Saturday morning Tai Chi sessions for adults in partnership with the Association and the Leicester City Council.

The summer Kung Fu class is to introduce some basics of Chinese martial arts to children and to cultivate their interest in a wider scope of culture. The children have had great fun with a preliminary taste of the beauty of Chinese Kung Fu. They have drilled elementary movements and gained skills of physical and mental coordination, thus taking the first step for further such programs.

It was a pity that the duration and the size of the class was limited because of the pandemic. Many children and parents are looking forward to more such opportunities. The Confucius Institute is considering the possibility of offering longer term Chinese Kung Fu classes for more children in the local community.
