December 1st, 2022, marks the 35th World AIDS Day, and the theme of this year is “Fight AIDS Together, Share Health Forever.” To popularize the knowledge of AIDS prevention among young people, strengthen their awareness of AIDS prevention, and reduce the discrimination against the AIDS community, the Office of Population and Family Planning organized a series of thematic publicity activities for World AIDS Day, which was hosted by the USTB Youth Health Companion Club (hereinafter referred as the Club). The activities were conducted online.

Peer education is an important form of sexual and reproductive health education for university students. It is characterized by a participatory approach, where the host and participants can meet face-to-face to discuss relevant issues. This time, the Club developed an online format to conduct a unique online “HIV prevention peer education” for all university students.

The online peer education was well supported by the School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering and the School of Economics and Management, which actively organized students to participate. In addition, the Club also called on the target audience online. It adopted the mode of retweeting the event to participate in the lucky draw and claim the prize by their attendance records. A total of four online peer education sessions were held, with over 200 students participating.

In addition to online peer education, the Club has also completed a board game that has expanded the content on gender, fighting AIDS together, and sharing health. The board game is a new form of HIV prevention peer education that uses games to help participants understand and think more deeply about the above issues. A total of two sessions of that game were held.

In addition, a “USTB Love & AIDS Question Collection Box” was designed to collect a wide range of questions from our students about AIDS and love by using a questionnaire forwarding to push in a lucky draw. After the questionnaires were collected, the questions were answered by members of the Club and relevant experts.

Six thematic activities were held on the theme of World AIDS Day. In terms of online publicity, the education series by the Club was read by more than 2,500 people. The campaign promoted AIDS prevention knowledge in various forms to raise students’ awareness and attention to AIDS, improved their self-protection ability, advocated care, fought against discrimination, and made everyone the first person responsible for their health. All of our aims are to fight AIDS together, to share health, and to build a harmonious campus.
