USTB Hosts the 2019 International Student Awards Ceremony and 2020 International Student New Year Gala

The USTB 2019 International Student Awards Ceremony and 2020 International Student New Year Gala were held on December 18th, 2019, to commend the teachers who have contributed to USTB's education of overseas students as well as outstanding international students in the past year, and to motivate the international students to study hard and practice greater diligence. Prof. XUE Qingguo,Vice Chancellor and Vice President of USTB, attended the event and delivered a speech.

The ceremony officially opened with a promotional video called “Sharing Our Destiny”. The video records the details of 40 USTB international students from 28 countries and 6 USTB teachers who participated in the celebration of the 70th National Day. That unforgettable experience would serve to motivate USTB international students to work harderat pursuing exchanges for the benefit of greater mutual understanding between people from different nations and cultures.

Prof. XUEexpressed his best wishes to all the international student for 2020. He spoke of howin 2019 USTB had welcomed 416 international students from 98 countries, and that the university had made great progress and secured many achievements in improving its education of international students. Over the past year, more students were awarded the “Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship”,“University Academic Star Award”, “Outstanding GraduatingThesis Award”, and “USTB Outstanding Graduate Award”, while others were nominated for the “President’s Medal” and “USTB Top Ten Academic Stars Award”. International students had actively participated in many volunteer activities and the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China National Day parade, vividly demonstratingtheir passion for working towards the benefit of all mankind. On behalf of USTB, Prof. XUE expressed his appreciation for the progress and achievements made by the international students in 2019. He also thanked the teachers for their hard work in cultivating USTB’s international students and wished them a happy New Year.

Mr. ZHAO Baoyong, Director of the International Student Center, issued commendationsto five students,appointing them to be the USTB 2020 International Student Ambassadors. Upon returning to their home countries during the holidays they will work to promote USTBin order to attract more excellent students.

The New Year Gala was divided into three sections: “Glory of the World”, “Love for China” and “Dream in USTB”. Through displays of different cultures, instrumentals, and even Yu Opera, the international students demonstrated their talents and vitality. Finally, the Gala ended with a song performed in eight different languages.

The audience expressed their appreciation for the event, where the Award ceremony motivated them to work harder, while the New Year Gala was an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents. The holding of the Gala reflects the exchange and integration of diverse cultures, which is of great significance to the promotion of internationalization effortsat USTB.

The USTB 2020 International Students New Year Gala was hosted by the International Student Center and was assisted by the International Exchange Association. Nearly 400 international students attended the Gala.
