On the evening of December 9th, the 7th Commemorative December 9th Movement Choir Competition was held in the Auditorium & Staff Activity Hall to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the December 9th Movement and uphold its spirit of remembrance. Prof. YU Chengwen, Vice Chancellor of USTB, Mr. DONG Chunyang, Director of the Office of Faculty Ethics, Director of the Department of Campus Security, and Ms. WANG Li, Secretary General of the USTB Communist Youth League Committee, attended the activity, joining together with the entire faculty and students to collectively enjoy this audiovisual feast.

Prof. YU Chengwen delivered the opening speech. He remarked that the December 9th Movement Choir Competition is one of USTB's traditional commemorative activities. By appreciating and singing patriotic songs, it aimed to inspire deep feelings of love for the country and pursuit of national culture among the faculty and students. The competition sought to enhance the profound friendship among them and promoted the creation of a positive and healthy campus cultural atmosphere. Mr. YU hopes that students will seize this opportunity to earnestly experience the passion for the revolution and construction of the Chinese people, as well as the genuine love for the Party and the country. He encouraged them to inherit the spirit of the older generation's hard work and strive for progress, to continue their efforts, and to become high-quality talents dedicated to the service of the country.
Parts of the performance
The competition themed 'Striving in the New Era, Chasing Dreams towards the Future,' is divided into four chapters: 'Passing on the Torch,' 'Stay True to the Original Aspiration,' 'Revitalization Journey,' and 'Youth Blossoms'. A total of 18 teams, composed of faculty and students from 23 schools and training units, vividly interpreted nearly 30 songs. Through their singing, they expressed their deep love for the country, showcasing the unwavering determination and patriotic enthusiasm of the new generation of Chinese youth as they bravely move forward and shoulder responsibilities in the new era.
Judges gave their evaluations
After the performances, the judges provided full evaluation for every performance, encouraging participants to explore additional artistic forms, such as dance and drama, to enrich the overall program. They also advised continuous refinement of pitch, rhythm, technique, and emotional expression to enhance the overall quality of the performances.
Presenting the awards
In the end, School of Economics and Management won the Grand Prize; School of Advanced Engineering, School of Marxism Studies, and School of Foreign Studies received the First Prize; School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Energy and Environmental Engineering, the Joint Team of Institute of Engineering and Technology, National Center for Materials Service Safety, and Collaborative Innovation Center of Steel Technology, School of Mathematics and Physics won the Second Prize; The Joint Team of School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Metallurgy, Institute for Cultural Heritage and History of Science and Technology, and Institute for Carbon Neutrality, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Civil and Resources Engineering, Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology, School of Chemistry and Biological Engineering, School of Computer and Communication Engineering, School of Intelligence Science and Technology, School of Automation and Electrical Engineering, State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and
Materials won the Third Prize.

The competition was organized by the USTB Communist Youth League Committee, Postgraduate Student Union, and Undergraduate Student Union, hosting this high-quality cultural event. It is reported that since the inception of the USTB's December 9th Movement Choir Competition seven sessions ago, it has attracted active participation from nearly 7,000 faculty and students across various schools and departments of the university.
