“The flowers are similar every year, and we meet again after a year of parting”. A year ago, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the graduates of the Class of 2020 had to say goodbye to each other on the Internet before heading to various places in the world. One year later, on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) by the whole Party and the people of the whole country, USTB students overcame difficulties, crossed mountains, seas, and crowds, and gladly attended the ceremony. Graduates returned to their Alma mater and see the Manjing (original address when USTB was founded) again.

The graduation ceremony of 2020 students of USTB was held in the stadium of the university with the theme of "Youth heart to the Party, Dream for the New Era". Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Mr. DAI Jinggang, Vice Chancellor and Secretary General of the Discipline Inspection Committee of USTB, Mr. YU Chengwen, and Mr. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB, Mr. YAN Xiangbin and Mr. WANG Luning, vice president of USTB, as well as principals of colleges, graduate training units, relevant functional departments attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. YU Chengwen. More than 2,000 graduates of the class of 2020 attended the graduation ceremony.

CHENG Jiaoyang, the valedictorian of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, recalled her four years in the university and last year's "cloud" graduation ceremony. She shared her growth and transformation in the course of pursuing her dream, expressed deep gratitude to her Alma mater, and called on all graduates to stay true to their original aspirations, live up to their youth, bear in mind the school motto of "Seek truth and innovate", and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Prof. Yang Renshu delivered an ebullient speech titled "Running to the Mountains and Seas in Full of Pride". He extended a warm welcome to the graduating class of 2020 who have returned to their Alma mater for this "Youth Engagement" and shared with them the remarkable achievements of the school and the wonderful stories of the students' dream-pursuing youth in the past year.

After the graduation ceremony, the degree conferment ceremony was held in the gymnasium, which pushed the atmosphere of the audience to the climax again. All the graduates took to the stage in order to receive the ceremony and accepted the " Turning of the Tassel" ceremony of successful graduation.
