USTB Holds May 25th Mental Health Month Activities

On May 25th, as part of Mental Health Month, USTB organized a series of online activities with the theme “come together during the pandemic”. Through the use of multimedia resources, the event focused on student lives at home and their mental health. Not only did it seek to inspire students to think independently and enrich themselves outside of class, but also raised their enthusiasm for everyday activities and promote healthy growth during the pandemic period.

For this year’s Mental Health Month, various activities were held. Five lectures related to students’ study life were given to arouse their awareness of the importance of time management. Students were also taught how to manage their emotions and improve their study plans. Also discussed was how to balance study and recreational activities during this stay-at-home period. The lectures also guided students on how to take care of their families by improving communication. Graduates were advised on how to prepare their mental state in advance of graduation.

In the "I Love My Family" story sharing activity, students were encouraged to focus on familial kinship, their upbringing, and discuss the concept of family. Through speeches, pictures and videos, participants shared their precious family memories. During the May 25th special “Weiwei Talks”, a radio program launched by the Mental Health Education & Counseling Center, ZANG Weiwei spoke to students about being good listeners and freely expressing their feelings, and further encouraged them to apply those communication skills into daily life. In another activity, students shared their favorite books and movies, which aimed at motivating them to actively acquire knowledge and think independently. More than one hundred books and films were recommended. Other group mental activities in the form of painting, singing, dancing, and flower arranging were organized to help students explore their interests and express their emotions. In the "tell me your wish" activity, students first expressed their patriotic feelings and undying love for the nation, their intention to continue the fight against COVID-19, before finally sharing their personal hopes for the future.

The May 25th Mental Health Month activities drew much attention from students and received more than one thousand creative works, with the official WeChat account’s view count numbering over fifty thousand. The activities and online psychological counseling services encouraged students to help each other and remain mentally healthy during the epidemic period.
