Be the Guardian of the Students -- the International Student Center has been working hard to fortify the defenses

For recent days, in the face of the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia, International Student Center (hereinafter referred to as ISC) try their utmost to stay on the frontline of epidemic prevention and control. Though the task is arduous and the situation is complicated, all the faculty members of ISC working devotedly and continuously under high intensity, in order to protect all the international students and build a strong defensive line for epidemic prevention and control.

At noon on Spring Festival's eve, Mr. JIA Zhaoyi, who was having lunch, was noticed to remind international students not to travel to Hubei province, which has been hit hard by the outbreak. He started contacting the 124 foreign students he was in charge of one by one at once, focusing on those who had studied and lived in Wuhan. Through the detail inquiry, it was found that an international student had been to Yichang, Hubei province, to visit friends from January 19th to 21st and transferred via Wuhan. Knowing the situation, JIA Zhaoyi asked the student not to leave the dormitory and reported the situation in a moment. At 9:30 p.m., according to the instructions of the prevention and control office of USTB, JIA Zhaoyi called the student and his roommate to go to the Peking University Third Hospital immediately.

From the moment the students left the campus, to the time they got the test results, every step was under the help and guide of JIA Zhaoyi. At the same time, he also tried his best to comfort the students. After the test results were confirmed to be negative, JIA zhaoyi helped the student and his roommate get to the conference center quarantine area prepared by USTB to take a quarantine. The time all these works settled down, it was already 2 a.m. in the morning on Spring Festival.

International Student Apartment is the top priority in the epidemic prevention and control. LIAN Wen, International Students Apartment Manager, immediately rushed to the first line upon receiving the notification of the epidemic prevention and control. 24 hours on duty, bed by bed, room by room, Manager LIAN along with 5 apartment staff keeps guard at every detail, to ensure 100% accuracy of accommodation information for each registered student. They give up the vacation they were supposed to enjoy, inspecting the 16-storey apartment building from step to step every day in order to prevent students from making the rounds or gathering. To strengthen the management of guards, they make strict checks and take the temperature of every student who enters the dormitory. In order to maintain the "first line of defense" for epidemic prevention and control, they carefully and meticulously strengthen the public area health management, ventilate every day, and disinfect the classroom, elevator, kitchen, stairwell, bathroom, duty desk and other key areas especially the room of students taking quarantine surrounding areas according to the requirements of school hospital. They also take the initiative to comfort students who are nervous and help students solve their difficulties, which has been praised by students.

On February 2, a Singaporean student burst into tears for he was forced to return to school because he could go home on the scheduled flight due to the government’s control measures. The staff on patrol hurried to this student’s dormitory once he saw this situation, and contact with the student’s class teacher to comfort the student together.

During the winter vacation, 85% of the students who stay on campus are international students, which makes the epidemic prevention and control task arduous. In the face of this sudden outbreak, Mr. ZHAO Baoyong, Director of International Student Center and Mr. LI Baoming, Vice Director of International Student Center made detailed and elaborate arrangements for the epidemic prevention and control among international students at the first time. Collecting and reporting students' dynamic real-time information, paying attention to students’ psychological health and emotion, giving health and safety tips, and dealing with emergencies, all these works have fully developed the working style of continuous fighting, not afraid of fatigue and being able to fight, and fulfilled the original intention and mission. What they have done have won the full understanding and gratitude of international students and they are praised as the guardians of international students in the epidemic prevention and control.
