On the afternoon of September 24th, the signing and unveiling ceremony of the “UGTC-USTB Joint Laboratory for Materials Big Data” was held at USTB. Mr. SHU Guogang, President Assistant of SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation Limited), Party Secretary & Chairman of the Board of UGTC (China United Gas Turbine Technology CO., LTD), Mr. ZHANG Xiaoyi, Vice President of UGTC, Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Prof. XIE Jianxin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Prof. ZANG Yong, Vice President of USTB, attended the ceremony.

On behalf of USTB, Mr. WU Guilong extended a warm welcome to the visiting leaders and experts of UGTC. He pointed out that the establishment of the joint laboratory is due to the previously agreed upon strategic cooperation framework. It is a pragmatic measure to implement the "four aspects" requirements proposed by General Secretary XI Jinping at the Symposium of Scientists. USTB will spare no effort, as always before, to support a lasting and sound bilateral cooperation, encourage a deeper and wider domain of the cooperation, and jointly promote the implementation of cooperative projects to yield fruitful results

In his speech, Mr. SHU Guogang congratulated both sides on the establishment of the joint laboratory and expressed his gratitude to USTB for its long-term support of the UGCT. He said that the building of the joint laboratory is a powerful measure for both sides to explore the frontiers of science and technology and serve the major demands of China. It seeks to meet General Secretary XI Jinping’s call “on perfecting a new national system for key core technologies under market conditions”. He hoped that the two sides will fully implement the framework agreement for strategic cooperation and emerge as a strong force for national strategic research of science and technologies.

Soon afterwards, Mr. ZHANG Xiaoyi and Prof. ZANG Yong, on behalf of their respective parties, signed the agreement for the establishment of the joint laboratory. Mr. SHU Guogang and Mr. WU Guilong collectively unveiled the plaque of the joint laboratory.

Mr. WANG Luning, Dean of the SMSE, introduced the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering and the UGTC-USTB Joint Laboratory for Materials Big Data; Prof. LI Xiaogang gave a brief introduction of the National Material Corrosion and Protection Science Data Center.

Academician XIE Jianxin pointed out in his speech that the joint laboratory has a dual role, serving as a global technology center for international frontier science and technology in order to meet the major demands of China and Beijing, and as an incubator to transfer research results from the laboratory into the production process for a wider market. He hopes that the two sides will jointly cultivate high-level innovative talents and make both their talents and technologies available to each side.

Heads of relevant departments of the UGTC, heads of Party Office, School Office, Personnel Office, Graduate School, Research Institute, Office of International Affairs, Advanced Innovation Center, State Key Laboratory for Advanced Materials of USTB and experts attended the signing ceremony. After the meeting, the participants visited the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Mental and Materials.
