Mr. ZHONG Denghua, Vice Minister of Education, and his delegation visited the USTB to inspect and guide the management of developing high-level sports teams in higher education institutions, together with Mr. WANG Hui, Head of the Department of College Students Affairs under the MOE, Mr. LIU Peijun, Counsel of the Department of Physical, Health and Arts Education under the MOE, and Mr. LIU Xiaoming, Vice Chairman of Beijing Municipal Education Commission. Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Prof. QUAN Liangzhu, Vice Chancellor of USTB, the heads of relevant departments, the representatives of coaches and athletes, and the heads of sports departments of some other universities in Beijing participated in the inspection.
Accompanied by the USTB leaders, Mr. ZHONG Denghua and his delegation visited USTB Gymnasium including its table tennis court, badminton court, golf course, taekwondo training ground, tennis court, basketball court and swimming pool, and asked about the athletes’ training conditions. During their visit, Prof. QUAN detailed the basic information of the USTB Gymnasium and the progress of developing high-level sports teams.
At the symposium, Mr. Wu Guilong, on behalf of all the USTB faculty and students, extended a warm welcome to Mr. ZHONG’s delegation and his gratitude to the MOE, Beijing Municipal Education Commission and other sister universities for their long-term support. And he continued to elaborate on the development of USTB sports sector and the high-level sports teams since the establishment of USTB.
Mr. ZHONG Denghua pointed out in his speech that the main task of the visit was to study and implement the important discourse of General Secretary Xi Jinping on sports and encourage colleges and universities to share experience in developing high-level sports teams. He made three suggestions in building high-level sports teams in high education: firstly, we should deeply understand the significance in this regards; secondly, we should comprehensively acknowledge our achievements and recognize future challenges; Lastly, we should further strengthen the responsibilities of all parties to cultivate high-quality, high-level sports teams with university-specified characteristics.
The heads of relevant departments of USTB, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Technology and Beijing Union University reported on the enrollment, management and construction of high-level sports teams at the symposium.
