On the afternoon of September 16^th, the opening ceremony of the 2^nd phase of BAO GANG UNITED STEEL (hereinafter referred to as “BAOGANG”)-USTB high-end composite talents class was held at BaoGang Party School. Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB, Prof. JIAO Shuqiang, Dean at the School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering, Prof. LIAO Qingliang, Dean at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and other relevant heads of schools and departments attended the opening ceremony via online streaming. Mr. QI Hongtao, Vice Chancellor of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Labor Union at BAOGANG, and Mr. NING Xiaojun, Dean of the USTB Guanzhuang Campus, signed the cooperation agreement together. Mr. TIAN Wenping, a member of the Party Committee of BAOGANG and the Director of the Organization and Personnel Department, presided over the opening ceremony. The ceremony was attended by more than 120 participants, including heads of secondary units from relevant departments at BAOGANG, relevant personnel from the School of Continuing Education, and students from both the first and second phases of the training classes.

Prof. WANG Luning said in his speech that USTB, in line with the national development strategy, focuses on the technological transformation and industrial upgrading of the iron and steel industry, and actively builds a service-oriented continuing education system for the industry to implement the "Mass Enterprises and Talents" training program for talents in iron and steel industry, striving to build an "interchange" of knowledge, talents, and innovation between schools and enterprises. He pointed out that the disciplinary advantages, scientific research directions, and research projects of USTB are highly consistent with BAOGANG in the fields of process optimization, product R&D, energy saving, and environmental protection, which means we have a broad future for cooperation. Prof. WANG proposed to take the important instruction of President XI Jinping in his letter to the senior professors of USTB on industrial talents training as our guidance. This workshop can be taken as an opportunity for both sides to deepen cooperation, and promote the integrated development of "enterprise-university-research cooperation", facilitating the high-quality and green development of BAOGANG, and realizing the win-win cooperation between the university and the enterprise.

Mr. QI Hongtao introduced the progress BAOGANG has made in green development in recent years and expressed his gratitude for the importance attached to this workshop by USTB. He pointed out that the workshop for high-end composite talents is an important initiative for BAOGANG to implement the talent quality improvement project for cadres of the BAOGANG Group and the three-year talent development plan, which is of far-reaching significance to accelerate the construction of a professional talent team and steadily improve the comprehensive quality and professional ability of the talent team. He asked all the students to cherish the opportunity, rely on the disciplinary advantages of USTB, focus on the central task of capacity enhancement, maintain a balance between work and study, constantly summarize and practice, so as to become excellent professional and technical talents who can take up the important responsibility.

Prof. JIAO Shuqiang and Prof. LIAO Qingliang respectively introduced the development and outstanding achievements from aspects like faculty and staff, scientific research, and talent cultivation in the fields of Metallurgical Science and Materials Science in USTB. They said that the university always takes the cultivation of all kinds of high-level and high-quality talents for enterprises as an important initiative of the university to serve the industry. They aimed to contribute to the talent ability improvement and high-quality development of BAOGANG through this training workshop.

The 2^nd phase of BAOGANG high-end workshop is led by the USTB Guanzhuang Campus, which focuses on training composite technical talents of BAOGANG. After full investigation and discussion, a training program focusing on key common metallurgical technologies, the performance of materials, process optimization, new materials research and development, and proper application of materials is determined. Meanwhile, the participants are organized and guided to carry out research on technical projects related to engineering, process, technology, products, environment, energy, and resources in the production process, so that the participants can update their technical knowledge, expand their horizons and enhance their ability of scientific R & D, as well as technological innovation.
