On October 4, the new English website for USTB was fully upgraded and officially launched as it marks 200-day countdown to USTB 70th anniversary.

USTB former English website, open to the public on September 29, 2019, the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, has served to demonstrate the university’s achievements in student cultivation, scientific research, and social service in recent years, which help to present our global image and increase our international influence. Teachers and students have also given feedback concerning their experience of using the website, and their valuable suggestions are beneficial for raising the user experience of the website.

In response to the concerns of all teachers and students, in April this year, USTB started a comprehensive revision and upgrade work of the former English website. Office of the Party Committee and Office of the President took the lead, and the Office of International Affairs, the Department of Public Affairs and Communications, Office of Information Technology, the International Student Center, Department of Human Resources, Department of Science and Technology, Office of the Alumni Association and other departments cooperated closely to prepare for the development work. Meanwhile, as the main undertaker of the upgrade and revision work, the Office of International Affairs had fully studied websites of more than 100 world-class universities to get a better understanding of their design ideas and to predict the possible reading habits of potential user groups in order to polish the layout and raise the use-friendliness of the website.

On May 31 this year, President Xi Jinping has called on that “We will improve our ability to engage in international communication so as to tell China's stories well, make the voice of China heard, and present a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China to the world.” Since the international competition was held for the first time at the end of last year, USTB has, in response to call of President Xi, strengthened the construction of communication capabilities and strived to build a comprehensive platform covering the whole campus responsible for publicity.

The current English website focuses on displaying the unique characteristics of USTB in a neat and refined way, telling the story of our long history and showing international vision. The website puts its focus on scientific research, faculty development, student enrollment, and academic publishing, and is oriented to the needs of overseas readers, global researchers, international students and alumni, and provides a high-quality platform convenient for the international community to get to know USTB.

The English website (URL: http://en.ustb.edu.cn) has 5 sections on the homepage, USTB Today, Global Talents, USTB Now, Scientific Highlights and About USTB.

The navigation bar is divided into six sections: News, About, Academics, Admissions, Research, and Global, as well as four other sections including Faculty, Alumni, Students, and Visitors, all serving to introduce USTB in a multi-dimensional and all-round way.

One of the highlights of the revision work this time is the "Meet USTB Faculty" in Research section. In this section, all the personal homepages of the whole teachers and researchers are included. This column, designed neatly, is directed at overseas readers, including the international cooperation departments of overseas universities, scientific research institutions, multinational companies, international scientific and postdoctoral researchers, international students and alumni, etc., to meet their needs of gathering information about the student cultivation and major settings of all schools. The "Meet USTB Faculty" is placed it in a conspicuous position under the Research section and has set a shortcut link at the bottom of the page.

The Alumni section displays the stories and news of USTB's alumni all over China, and the contact information of the alumni and the alumni donation information are added in this section.

The Faculty section introduces the faculty of USTB and provides positions open to foreign personnel. In Research section, its sub-section "Meet USTB Faculty" has worked with all the other sections to provide detailed information for foreign readers who are willing to study and live in USTB.

The upgrading of the English website for USTB is an effective measure to introduce us to readers overseas, to promote our image and popularity, and to expand high-level cooperation with the international community. USTB pays full attention to the valuable opinions and suggestions from teachers and students at home and abroad. With the united efforts of the whole university, the goal of revising and upgrading the website has been successfully completed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 200-day countdown to USTB 70th anniversary.
