On September 26th, the new group of USTB-DMU Confucius Institute (CI) volunteer teachers made its debut at DMU’s Welcome Day for the freshers from all over the world. The CI’s Tai Chi fan dance and showcase of other Chinese culture items aroused immense curiosity among the new students, some even booked Mandarin courses on the spot.

At the CI stands, activities like calligraphy practice, shuttlecocks, handkerchief twirling, and chopsticks challenge attracted many students and parents, some of them were very talented and amazed the crowd. There was a steady stream of enquiries, all immersed in the unique charm of Chinese culture.
A Lively and Exciting Event
Tai Chi fan dance was even more popular. In spite of the cold wind , the CI teachers' spectacular performance was surrounded by large crowds. Typical and charming martial arts movements such as the Golden Rooster, the Spiritual Cat Pouncing on the Butterfly and the Fierce Tiger Pouncing on its Prey, etc. won applause after applause and shots after shots.

The Welcome Day is an important annual event at DMU. The CI’s performances and stands were so fantastic that they were quick to be found on DMU official social media during the seven-hour event. Many students have expressed their interest in learning Chinese at the CI and hoped to visit China one day.
