On October 13^th, the opening ceremony of USTB Institute of Minerals Research was held at 306 conference room of the Administration Building. Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB; Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB; Prof. SHAO Anlin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB; officials in charge, and teacher representatives from relevant departments and teaching & research units attended the ceremony. Prof. SUN Jinghong presided over the ceremony.

Prof. YANG Renshu gave a remark

On behalf of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Prof. SHAO Anlin for his presiding over the construction of the Institute. He pointed out that the establishment of the Institute was of great strategic significance for USTB and to better serve the major strategic needs of China's mineral resources. He stressed that the institute should blend its characteristics and USTB development together and continue to realize resource sharing and advantages complementation so as to make more breakthroughs, providing engineering technology and strategic support to the sustainable development of China's resource industry, and making new and bigger contributions to the construction of a country strong in technology and manufacturing.

Prof. SHAO Anling delivered a speech

Prof. SHAO Anlin thanked the trust and high-quality platform provided by USTB. He said that the founding of the institute was an implementation of the spirit of President XI Jinping's important instructions about resource safety and technological self-reliance, as well as one of the concrete measures taken to carry out the requirements in President XI Jinping's reply letter to USTB senior professors. It fully reflected the school's sense of responsibility and mission of focusing on "making important contributions to the country" and serving the national strategy, and also reflected USTB's new era spirit of "pursuing excellence and having the courage to be the first." He said that the platform of the institute should be fully used to give full play to the role of the "four examples," gather a group of high-level strategic talents in science and technology, and explore a new mode of deep integration of industry, university, and research, so as to help the development of USTB and make contributions to the high-quality development of China's mining industry.

Mr. WU Guilong gave a speech

Mr. WU Guilong said that the steel and iron industry was the basic and pillar-like industry of the national economy, and iron ore is the basic raw material of the industry, playing an important role of "ballast stone" in the high-quality development of the industry. Prof. SHAO Anlin has been engaged for a long in the technology development, engineering management, and strategic research of iron ore resources. As the leader, pioneer, and constructor of the industry, he will definitely inject strong strength and power into the development of USTB engineering management and strategic research. Mr. WU Guilong stressed that USTB will make every effort to support the construction and development of the institute, innovate institutional mechanisms, and connect the authorized strength, platform resources, and innovation team resources to the institute, providing strong support for high-level talents to concentrate on academic research.

Specialists and leaders had an in-depth exchange on the future development and construction of the institute from aspects like scientific research and talent cultivation. Personnel from different departments of USTB said they will spare no effort to support the construction and development of the institute and ensure work is done successfully.

The USTB Institute of Minerals Research will continue to deepen the conduction of basic research of the resource industry, as well as the research of key technology development and advanced engineering management mode. In the future, the institute will guided by the principle of "Science stimulating technology, technology driving industry development, application leading scientific research, and management promoting development" to promote Industry-University-Research integration and lead China's strategic mineral resources development theory and engineering technology innovation, making joint contributions to serving the country's major strategic needs for mineral resources.
