The 60^th Track and Field Competition for Beijing Colleges and Universities was held in USTB on October 23^rd and from October 27^th to 30^th. The Competition was hosted by the Municipal Education Commission and the Municipal Sports Bureau, and undertaken by the Federation of University Sports of Beijing and USTB. A total of 1,506 students from 72 universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University and USTB, competed in 115 track and field events during 4 days.

Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB, Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB, and Prof. QUAN Liangzhu, former Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of USTB, came to the competition to cheer for the athletes.

The Competition is a traditional event of USTB. Our school sent 48 high-level athletes to this competition and they successfully completed 38 events through their unity and cooperation. In the 30 events of Group A (high-level group), they all achieved good results in the top eight, and finally won the third prize in the total score of women's groups in Group A and men and women's groups, as well as the "Sportsmanship Award" and "Best Organizer Award".

Under the guidance of coach DONG Guanqing, Athlete ZHANG Yue successfully broke the university records for men's 10000-meter and 3000-meter steeplechase which has maintained for more than 20 years with the results of 29:44.34 and 8:48.47.

USTB has a glorious tradition of sports that has trained a large number of excellent high-level track and field athletes and has embarked on a successful road for colleges and universities to cultivate high-level athletes. In the future, USTB will continue to gather strength, increase enrollment, improve scientific training level and management level, further improve our track and field sports level, further enhance the position of our university in sports among Beijing colleges and universities and continue to devote the strength of USTB for building China to a sports power.

As an important competition event with profound historical, cultural, and sports spiritual heritage, the Track and Field Competition for Beijing Colleges and Universities has witnessed the glorious history of the development of Beijing's higher education institutions for more than 60 years, along with the growth of higher education in China, and has built a platform for exchanges and display for physical education teaching, competitive level of track and field events, and campus culture construction of capital universities.

The 1st Track and Field Competition for Beijing Colleges and Universities was held at the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology (former name of USTB) in May 1955. The 60th Track and Field Competition for Beijing Colleges and Universities returned to USTB on the occasion of its 70th anniversary. It is reported that in the 60 sessions of the Track and Field Competition for Beijing Colleges and Universities that have been held, USTB has undertaken 6 events and co-sponsored for once, ranking second among the capital universities. Tsinghua University has undertaken the most, of 8 times.
