On the morning of January 29^th, Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB; Prof. LV Zhaoping, Vice President of USTB led a delegation to USTB Shunde Innovation School (hereinafter referred to as the School) for research and guidance and discussed its development. Prof. HE Xinbo, Dean of the School made a work report, and Mr. YANG Debin, Secretary General of the Party Committee of the School presided over the meeting.

Mr. ZANG Yong, Deputy Director of the Office of Administrative Affairs and former Vice President of USTB, Prof. PENG Qinghong, Head of the Organization Department of the CPC, and Mr. SHENG Jiawei, Director of the Office of the Party Committee and the President’s Office, and Head of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, accompanied the research. Prof. DONG Liang and Prof. GUO Dongxu, Associate Deans of the School, and heads of relevant departments attended the meeting.

On behalf of the School, Mr. YANG Debin firstly expressed his warm welcome to Chancellor WU Guilong and Vice President LV Zhaoping and their delegation to investigate the School at the beginning of the New Year, and also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the University for its long-term support to the construction and development of the School.

Prof. HE Xinbo reported on the overall positioning, construction achievements, and future development plan of the School, focusing on party building, postgraduate cultivation, faculty construction, innovation platform construction, science & technology innovation and transformation of results, and external cooperation and exchange. He said that under the leadership of USTB and the support of Foshan City and Shunde District, the School has continued to make new breakthroughs in talent cultivation, platform construction, scientific and technological innovation, as well as the transformation of results, and social services. In recent years, by introducing high-level scientific and technological innovation teams and relying on the Guangdong Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base, the School has formed a team of talents including academicians (full-time), national major talent project finalists, postdoctoral students, and double-base teachers. Besides we also vigorously implemented the enterprise mentorship system and continuously improved the education model; optimized the enrollment of majors and trained nearly 500 postgraduates. The School vigorously promoted the construction of key innovation platforms and has been approved for 3 provincial innovation platforms and 5 municipal-level innovation platforms. A total of 48 professional laboratories or research centers are built or are under construction; it has strengthened organized scientific research, enhanced collaborative innovation in scientific research, and actively integrated into serving the local community, which has been awarded 261 various vertical scientific research projects. Meanwhile, it also cooperated with nearly 100 various enterprises and institutions in Foshan and its vicinity, continuously promoting technological progress and the transfer of scientific and technological achievements. In the future, the School will follow the pace of USTB to reform the development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and continue to make efforts in improving the cultivation of talents and producing landmark results. Firstly, it will actively promote the localization of teachers and build a special talent team; secondly, it will strengthen the integration of cross-disciplines and coordinate the construction of innovation platforms jointly built by the university and enterprises; thirdly, it will strengthen the construction of pilot bases and industrial parks, vigorously promote the transformation and industrialization of results, and strive to promote the high-quality development of the School.

Mr. ZANG Yong said that the School should always adhere to the development idea of being based in Foshan and radiating the Greater Bay Area, take the development of local industries as the guide, solidly promote the integration and development of talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation and transformation of results, further promote the transfer of scientific and technological achievements to industries, and continuously enhance the ability to serve local development.

Prof. LV Zhaoping expressed his affirmation of the achievements of the School at this stage, and hoped that the School, as a gateway for the USTB to integrate into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, would give full play to the School’s role as a bridge and a bond; firstly, speed up development by making full use on the resources of the main campus; secondly, by continuously strengthening ties with local governments, research institutions, and enterprises, and highlighting the function of serving local development; thirdly, by actively promoting the transformation and flow of scientific and technological achievements and high-level talents, and putting talents cultivation and achievements transformation into practice.

Mr. WU Guilong said that USTB attaches great importance to the construction and development of the School, which should fully grasp the new opportunities for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, and the development of the School should be based on local needs, serve local development, actively integrate into the regional innovation-driven development strategy, and improve its contribution to local economic development.

After the meeting, Mr. WU Guilong and Prof. LV Zhaoping visited the laboratories of related disciplines in the School and exchanged views with the post-doctoral and post-graduate students who still worked in the laboratories.
