On the afternoon of August 29th, the selection and voting process for the master plan of the Xiong’an Campus was officially opened for public viewing in the USTB Olympic Gymnasium, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and staff.
The three selected proposals are all from academicians or masters in the field of planning and architecture. With a reasonable layout in the exhibition area, the three design proposals were lined up, and each proposal was centered on a 1:800 sand table model booth, surrounded on three sides by exhibition panels reflecting the style of the proposal, and the TV screen on the front explained the planning concept and design highlights in a loop.

Students and faculty members paused for a long time in each exhibition area, discussing the shape of the artificial lake on the sand table, admiring the architectural landscape groups in one corner of the campus, listening to the design concept in the video explanation, and looking forward to the beautiful Xiong’an Campus in the future. After browsing the exhibition, students and teachers swept the code with their phones in the voting area and cast their votes for their favorite design.
President YANG Renshu and Vice President YAN Xiangbin visiting on-site
On the morning of August 31st, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, and Prof. YAN Xiangbin, Vice President of USTB, visited the site to inspect the exhibition and make evaluations. They were accompanied by Mr. JIN Rendong, Deputy Director of the Project Headquarters of USTB Xiong’an Campus Construction (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters), and Mr. FENG Jianming, Chief Engineer of the Headquarters, gave a detailed explanation. Prof. YANG Renshu fully recognized the milestones achieved by the Headquarters in the overall planning and collection work, urged all the staff to enhance the sense of mission and responsibility to perform their duties, and push forward the work at the height of the major historical development opportunities of USTB. He pointed out that USTB has achieved fruitful results over the past 70 years since its establishment. Now, USTB is striding toward the goal of the “100th anniversary of USTB and a world-class university”. The construction of the Xiong’an Campus is a key step to achieving the goal. He also stressed the need for long-term planning and a collaborative layout. We should balance the relationship between heritage and innovation in terms of function, layout, style, and details, so as to perfectly integrate the cultural tradition of the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology and the spirit of the times of the USTB. At the same time, we should adhere to the “student-oriented” concept, listen to the suggestions of students and teachers, embody the ownership of students, and build a satisfactory learning and working venue for them.
The three design layouts for voting
The exhibition will last until 2:00 pm on September 7th, and the special sessions for each evaluation will also be launched sequentially. From 8:00 am on September 1st, the live streaming platform (live.ustb.edu.cn) will be available to view the exhibition online. All students, faculty and staff can log in to watch the video of each program and scan the QR code at the end of the video to vote. The big screen at the HongBo Dining Hall will also be simultaneously scrolling, inviting students, faculty and staff to actively participate and contribute to the planning and construction of the Xiong’an Campus.
