Mr. ZHANG Longqiang, an alumnus of the School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering(an undergraduate in 1994, graduate student in 2003 and doctoral student in 2005), is the Dean of the Chinese Metallurgical Information and Standardization Institute. On the afternoon of April 25th, he visited the Alumni Forum and presented a lecture named “Inherit the motto of seeking truth and pursuing innovation, and contribute to the dream of a strong country focusing on steel and iron industry” in the Academic Conference Hall. Before the lecture, Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, and Prof. HE Minqing, the Vice President of USTB met with Mr. ZHANG Longqiang and exchanged views on the development and top-tier design in the energy field, low-carbon, and metallurgical fields with each other. They discussed and hoped that Mr. ZHANG would make more trips back to USTB and give suggestions on the development of the school and provide guidance for students.

Mr. ZHANG Longqiang graduated from the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy of our school in 1998. In that same year, he joined Jinan Iron and Steel Group Corporation Iron-making Plant and worked on iron-making production and technological research. In 2003, he returned to the School of Metallurgical and Ecological, USTB to become an MD-PhD student. In 2009, with a doctorate degree in engineering, he joined the Chinese Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute, and participated in metallurgical related consulting work. In January 2020, he was given the title of the dean of Chinese Metallurgical Information and Standardization Institute.

The lecture was hosted by Mr. HE Jin, the Head of the Office of the Alumni Association and Office of the USTB Education Development Foundation. During the lecture, Mr. ZHANG Longqiang fondly reviewed his study experiences at USTB, described the development process, current situation and the trend of the steel industry all around the world, and analyzed the leading role of the world’s steel powers in different eras.

Mr. ZHANG practices the motto of seeking truth and pursuing innovation, and the spirit of never giving up in practice has moved everyone present and set a good example for the students of USTB. Everyone deeply felt the great significance of the steel industry to enrich the development of our country, and clarified their development direction and goals.
