Led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alister Jones, the Delegation of Waikato University Visited USTB for Communication and Exchange

On March 11th, a delegation of the University of Waikato, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alister Jones, visited USTB for a communication and exchange meeting. Prof. JIAO Shuqiang, Vice President of USTB attended the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions on talent cultivation, research collaboration, and institutional partnerships. The meeting was presided over by Prof. ZHANG Bowei, Associate Director of the Office of International Affairs.

Prof. JIAO Shuqiang began by introducing the university's key developments and recent progress in international collaboration and exchange. He emphasized USTB’s strong commitment to global engagement and its ongoing strategy of open education. Prof. JIAO suggested that both universities should leverage their respective strengths and discipline-specific needs to foster collaboration, particularly in the fields of economics and management, artificial intelligence, and computer science. He expressed hope that through in-depth exchanges, the two institutions would achieve significant outcomes in talent cultivation, research innovation, and joint academic programs.

Prof. Alister Jones expressed his appreciation for the remarkable progress of the USTB. He introduced the University of Waikato’s strengths in key disciplines and its existing collaborations with Chinese universities. He emphasized Waikato’s commitment to fostering partnerships with top-tier Chinese institutions and expressed his hope that future cooperation between the two universities would serve as a model for China-New Zealand academic exchange. Through innovative talent cultivation models, the partnership aims to nurture high-level, interdisciplinary, and globally competitive professionals.

Prior to the meeting, Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellor of USTB warmly received Prof. Alister Jones and his delegation. Representatives from the Office of International Affairs, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Intelligent Science and Technology also participated in the exchange and discussion.
