On November 28^th, the General Conference and 2021 Annual Meeting of USTB Guangdong Alumni Association was held in Guangzhou. Prof. WANG luning, Vice President of USTB; Prof. HE Minqing, Associate Head of University Council; and Prof. ZANG Yong, former Vice President of USTB, attended the meeting on behalf USTB and the Alumni Association. The leaders actively introduced USTB's development achievements, main content of the 12th Party Congress and the 14^th Five-year Plan to alumni and had extensive and in-depth exchanges on gathering alumni strength to support the development of USTB, expanding university-industry and university-research cooperation, and strengthening the construction of the Alumni Association. Mr. CHEN Jianhua, former Mayor of Guangzhou; Prof. LIU Zhengyi, former President of South China University of Technology; Prof. SUN Dongbai, former Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and nearly 400 alumni form Guangdong, Zhejiang, Hainan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Suzhou and other places attended the conference.

Prof. YANG Renshu, the school President delivered a speech in the form of a video. He said that although he was unable to be present in person due to the epidemic, he was always concerned about the construction and development of the Guangdong Alumni Association. Over the past 35 years since its establishment, the Guangdong Alumni Association has been one of the most active and cohesive alumni associations of the university, greatly uniting the alumni groups in Guangdong, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond, building many communication platforms to serve the alumni and contributing valuable strength to the construction of the university. He expressed that the university will continue to work hard to build a platform, close contact with alumni, service and support the development of alumni career, and hope that the majority of alumni often return to school to have a look, and contribute to the development of society and national rejuvenation of USTB power.

Prof. ZHOU Guozhi, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and alumni Ms. ZHANG Zilin (Miss World 2007) also sent congratulatory videos.

Mr. TAN Xiaozhuang, President of USTB Guangdong Alumni Association, gave a work report and reviewed the development history of the Alumni Association. During his tenure, the Alumni Association organized more than 60 activities including the annual orientation and senior citizens' meeting, contacted more than 6,000 alumni from all walks of life, actively supported the construction and development of USTB Shunde Graduate School and Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology, and enhanced the cohesiveness of Guangdong alumni, making the Alumni Association an effective link between alumni and their feelings.

After that, Mr. DAI Yulan, Secretary-General of Guangdong Alumni Association Council, presided over the general election of the Association, which elected a new president, honorary president and other organizational members.

On behalf of USTB, Prof. WANG Luning issued the appointment letter to the new president Mr. WEN Jianghe, and Mr. TAN Xiaozhuang passed the alumni association flag to Mr. WEN.

Later, Prof. WANG Luning introduced the development achievements of USTB in recent years in his speech, fully affirmed the role and value of the Alumni Association in the development of USTB, and encouraged the Alumni Association to work hard from a single emotional association to comprehensive interaction, win-win cooperation and collaborative development. He invited all alumni to come back to USTB next year to celebrates its 70th anniversary and participate in the event together.

Towards the end of the conference, students from Shunde Graduate School performed the chorus of USTB anthem. Representatives of Alumni Associations from Hainan, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Suzhou, Shanghai, Wenzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong presented souvenirs to the Guangdong Alumni Association. Dr. ZHANG Saisai, class of 2021 alumnus, spoke on behalf of the new alumni who joined the Guangdong Alumni Association, and Prof. YU Yongning, class of 1957 alumnus who could not be present in person, delivered an audio speech.

During the stay in Guangzhou, Prof. WANG Luning and his delegation also visited some alumni enterprises and had discussions with representatives of alumni entrepreneurs.

Mr. HE Jin, Head of Office of the Alumni Association and Office of the USTB Education Development Foundation; Prof. HE Xinbo, Dean of Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology; Prof. ZHANG Xiaotong, Dean of USTB Shunde Graduate School; Prof. DONG Liang and Prof. GUO Dongxu, Vice Deans of USTB Shunde Graduate School, also attended the discussions.
