He noted that the progress made by USTB could never be gained without long-term great support from the country and the superior departments. He hoped that the NDRC could continue to strengthen the guide and support of USTB, to promote the high-quality development of the new materials industry in the country and the cause of USTB with scientific innovation as the driving power and serve for the self-reliance of high-level scientific and technological development.

Mr. HUO Fupeng expressed thanks to the reception of USTB. He fully recognized the achievements and contributions of the school in promoting the research and industrial development of new materials technology and briefly introduced the main functions of the Industrial Department and Metallurgy Division of the NDRC. He said that the new materials industry is a strategic and basic industry, which is a key field for high-tech competition. Developing new materials is an inevitable requirement for China to transform from a large manufacturing country into a country strong in manufacturing. It is also one of the fundamental initiatives for the country to solve the problem of lack of mastering key materials and technology. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, China has made great progress in the new materials industry, but we are still facing many challenges. Next, the National Development and Reform Commission would further promote the industrialization of the scientific achievements of new materials. He hoped that universities could give full play to their advantages in original innovation and achievement transformation to expand China's competitive advantages in the industrial chain of new materials.

Before the discussion meeting, the delegation had a visit to the exhibition hall of the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials and the Research Institute for Advanced Interdisciplinary Science and Technology.
