On June 16^th, the graduation ceremony for 2023 graduates was held at USTB Stadium. Prof. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Mr. DAI Jinggang, Vice Chancellor of USTB and Secretary General of the Discipline Inspection Committee, Prof. YU Chengwen and Prof. SUN Jinghong, Vice Chancellors of USTB, Prof. ZAHNG Weidong, Prof. WANG Luning and Prof. HUANG Wunan, Vice Presidents of USTB, as well as members of the USTB Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, relevant personnel in charge from different schools as well as institutions for training postgraduates, and ambassadors and counselors from the embassies to China of some international students' home countries, participated in the ceremony. Prof. YU Chengwen presided over the ceremony. Over 7,000 graduates and more than 1,500 parents took part in the ceremony.

A graduation singing party was specially designed during the warming-up section. In the song and dancing of the representatives of graduates, memories of USTB went into the mind of all the graduates. In their voice, they sang their sentimental attachment to their university, to their classmates, and to their teachers; in their dance steps, they expressed their sticking to their dreams and longing for the future.

In the prologue section, a short graduation memorial film made by the school led the graduates to recall their youthfulness in USTB. The film told the graduates' struggling stories on the way to growth, which carried students' memories and dreams.

Then, representatives of the graduates awarded teachers who won the title of “My favorite teacher” and “My favorite supervisor,” which were voted by all the graduates; they also presented flowers to representatives of teachers, graduates' parents, advisors, as well as rear services staffs for conveying their appreciation. In this way, the graduates expressed their thanks to the teachers and staff, whose diligent working and untiring efforts finally bore countless rich fruits.

"President's Medal" award ceremony

As the ringing bell marked the start of the graduation ceremony. Prof. YU Chengwen read the commendation decisions of Excellent graduates, “Set Sailing Prize” and graduates for grassroots services in West China. Mr. DAI Jinggang awarded certificates to the representatives of those who won the “Set Sailing Prize”, and Prof. SUN Jinghong presented the 25^th Graduate Students Support Education Team with a flag. Later, Mr. WU Guilong and Prof. YANG Renshu presented the gold medals and honorary certificates for the 17^th “President's Medal” winners.

Prof. WANG Luning announce the degree conferring decesion

Prof. WANG Luning read the degree awarding decision. Among the 2023 graduates, 402 were awarded the doctor’s degree, 3,218 the master’s degree, 3,096 the bachelor’s degree, and 9 the second bachelor’s degree.

Appointment of alumni liasons

Prof. ZHANG Weidong and Prof. HUANG Wunan awarded the letter of appointment to alumni liaisons. Two hundred and forty-five graduates were appointed.

Representative of undergraduate students delivered a speech

WANG Hanyu, a representative of undergraduates from the School of Economics & Management told his growth in USTB and expressed deep appreciation for the school. He called for all graduates should make efforts to become high-caliber talents with high ideals, professional competence, and a strong will to serve the country and make a career in the new era with the spirit of that steel and iron.

Representative of graduate students delivered a speech

JIANG Chunhe, a representative of the postgraduates from the School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering recalled his mind journey and harvests on the way to growth during his studying at USTB in the past 10 years. He called for all the graduates to keep entrust in mind, strive for excellence, and dare to vie, doing research for the nation and promoting the nation’s technology-independent development with an innovative spirit, so as to hand in a satisfying answer sheet in the new era.

Prof. YANG Renshu delivered a speech

Prof. YANG Renshu delivered a speech to express his wishes and expectations for the graduates with enthusiasm. He expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the 2023 graduates, who have achieved their studies and now graduated successfully. He also shared USTB’s rapid development and the gained achievements in recent years, which were linked to the efforts of these young people. On the occasion of graduation, Prof. YANG Renshu also shared sentences with the graduates to encourage them to devote themselves to the rejuvenation of the nation, never cease to learn, and be brave and remain true to their original aspirations. Finally, he encouraged graduates to keep the school motto “Seeking Truth and Promoting Innovation” in mind, to embrace the continuously progressing lovely China and make a career living up to their standards of themselves and worthy of the new era where they lived in.

In the end, all the teachers and students sang the USTB university anthem. In the beautiful sound of singing, they expressed their deep love and sentimental attachment to USTB, and the ceremony ended with the feeling song. After the ceremony, the list of all the graduates conferred degrees was published online in a video.

Degree conferring ceremony

After the graduation ceremony, the degree conferring ceremony was held in USTB Gymnasium. All the graduates went on the stage in order to take part in the turning of the tassel ceremony, which means that the graduates have achieved in their studies and graduated successfully. USTB took photos of every graduate standing on the stage with the supervisor turning the tassel for them; after the ceremony, the photo would be given to every graduate, which is a graduation gift from USTB, carrying their Alma mater's wishes for all the graduates to pursue their dreams and embrace the future of their own. What was more, the 2022 graduates were specially invited to take part in the degree conferring ceremony, fulfilling the appointment between USTB and 2022 graduates, despite being a little bit late, still warm, and joyful.

The 2023 graduation ceremony is an important part of USTB's education. In order to strengthen humanistic care for the graduates as well as graduates’ sense of belongingness and sense of honor towards USTB, the school fully developed the education function of the ceremony by delicately designing the process and sections, which effectively inspired the graduates' firm resolution to become “high caliber talent with high ideals, professional competence, and a strong will to serve the country.” The ceremony rooted the spirit of patriotism firmly in the heart of the students, and contained graduates' deep affection for the school and appreciation for the teachers, giving a last course for the 2023 graduates, vivid and full of enthusiasm.
