On November 12th, the USTB- Tohoku University Bilateral Academic Exchange Meeting was held in the Academic Conference Hall. Prof. Muramatsu Atsushi, Board Member of Tohoku University, Prof. YIN Shu, Prof. Kiyoshi Kanie, Prof. Akira Kirishima, Prof. Shigeru Ueda, Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB, attended the meeting. Prof. LIAO Qingliang, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, presided over the meeting.
Prof. WANG Luning made a remark
First, Prof. WANG Luning made a speech on behalf of USTB. He introduced the history of USTB and its friendship with Tohoku University. He said that the Bilateral Academic Exchange Meeting could promote people-to-people exchanges and enhance the relationship between the two schools. He thanked the professor of Tohoku University for giving a special lecture online for doctoral students during the pandemic. The lecture not only broadens students' horizons but also maintains the academic exchanges between the two universities. At last, Prof. WANG Luning as the representative of the organizer expressed welcome to the experts and scholars from Tohoku University and wished the meeting a complete success.
Mr. Muramatsu Atsushi made a speech
Subsequently, Prof. Muramatsu Atsushi made a speech on behalf of Tohoku University. He thanked the School of Materials Science and Engineering for hosting the conference and introduced the history of Tohoku University, the development of subjects, teaching, and research. In his view, the Bilateral Academic Exchange Meeting is an important academic exchange platform and a good measure to promote cultural and academic exchanges. At last, he wished the subject development of two universities could climb the peak.
Then, Prof. WANG Luning issued Appointment Certifications of Visiting Professor and Adjunct Professor for Prof. Muramatsu Atsushi and Prof. YIN Shu.
After the appointment ceremony, the participating professors made academic reports in turn. Prof. Muramatsu Atsushi made a report on the theme of the Mechanochemical route to give well-defined zeolite catalysts as a novel preparation method. Prof. PANG Xiaolu, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Physics, made a report on Research on nanotwinned ceramic sputtering coatings. Prof. WU Yuan, Associate Head of State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials, made a report on Overcoming oxygen embrittlement of refractory high-entropy alloy via grain boundary engineering. Prof. YIN Shu made a report on the Hydrothermal synthesis of nanomaterials for smart window applications. Prof. TIAN Jianjun, Associate Dean of the Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology, made a report on Strongly confined quantum-dot light-emitting diodes. Prof. YIN Haiqing, from the Collaborative Innovation Center of Steel Technology, made a report on the Design of nickel-based superalloys via high-throughput calculation and machine learning.
On November 13th and 14th, sub-venues of the Bilateral Academic Exchange Meeting were held in rooms No.323 and No.353 of the Main Building, respectively.

The Bilateral Academic Exchange Meeting of USTB and Tohoku University has been held since 2018, which has effectively promoted the exchange and sharing of teaching experience and scientific research results between the two universities and has built a good communication platform for teachers and students of the two universities. It has played a positive role in enhancing the exchange of disciplines and strengthening the academic cooperation between the two universities. In the future, the two universities will deepen cooperation, learn from each other, and jointly contribute to the continuous development of materials science.
