On March 18^th, Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Prof. HUANG Wunan, Vice President of USTB, and Mr. HE Minqing, Associate Head of Office of Administrative Affairs, visited Xiong’an New Area and visited alumni. Mr. ZHANG Guohua, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Labour Committee, and Director of the Administrative Committee of Xiong’an New Area, met with Prof. YANG Renshu and his delegation and held a work discussion on the construction of the Xiong’an campus. Mr. MA Qinghong, Deputy Director of Xiong’an New Area Administrative Committee, Mr. JIN Rendong, Deputy Commander of Xiong’an Campus Construction Headquarters, and other relevant personnel participated in the activities.

At the symposium, Mr. ZHANG Guohua, on behalf of the Xiong’an New Area, warmly welcomed Prof. YANG Renshu and his delegation and fully affirmed USTB's strong promotion of the construction of the Xiong’an campus. He said USTB was one of the first four universities to be relocated to the Xiong’an New Area and has an outstanding advantage in scientific and technological innovation, which aligns with the development orientation and industrial development direction of the Xiong’an New Area. At present, the New Area is deeply studying and implementing the spirit of the 20^th National Congress of the CPC and the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, coordinating to promote the relocation of non-capital functions of Beijing and large-scale development and construction, and the development of forms, functions, and platforms. It is more urgent to accelerate the establishment of a modern education system, gather innovative and entrepreneurial resources, and develop high-end and high-tech industries. He hopes that USTB will continue to improve and optimize the campus planning and design, accelerate the preliminary work, and build a campus with distinctive cultural connotations. He said the New Area will, as always, provide support and guarantee for the construction of USTB's Xiong’an campus project, hoping that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in higher education development, technology industry innovation, and other fields to send more high-quality talents to the construction and development of the New Area.

At the symposium

Prof. YANG expressed his appreciation to Xiong’an New Area for its strong support toward USTB. He said that the establishment of Xiong’an New Area in Hebei Province is a significant historic strategic choice made by the CPC Central Committee with President XI Jinping at its core. He stressed that USTB will further optimize and improve the overall plan of the campus in accordance with the requirements of the New Area, build an open, green, and dynamic Xiong’an campus, give full play to the university's advantages in key disciplines such as metallurgical engineering, materials science, mining engineering, and history of science and technology, and strengthen communication and cooperation with the New Area in industry-university-research cooperation, scientific and technological innovation, the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and personnel training. We will contribute more to the effective implementation of major national strategies.

On the morning of March 18^th, nearly 100 alumni from Wuhan, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang and other places gathered in Xiong’an New Area to discuss friendship and development with Prof. YANG Renshu and his delegation.

Mr. LIU Zhuangsheng, an alumnus from the class of 1977, spoke as a representative. He said that he was glad to hear that his Alma mater would build a new campus in Xiong’an New Area, and everyone was excited and looking forward to it. In the future, he would stick to the school motto of "Seeking Truth and Promoting Innovation" and bear in mind the important instructions from President XI Jinping to contribute to the construction of the new campus. Alumni representatives from all over the country expressed their congratulations on the development of USTB and the construction of the new campus, saying that they will continue to strengthen the ties among alumni and between alumni and the university and make more contributions to the progress of the alumni affairs and the high-quality development of USTB.

Prof. YANG Renshu expressed his concern and gratitude to the alumni attending the meeting, and appreciated and affirmed the Xiongan alumni's concern and support for the work of the new campus of the university. He introduced the development and achievements of USTB in recent years, and focused on explaining the President’s reply to the senior professors of UST, the successful holding of the 70^th anniversary of USTB, and the new progress made in the construction of the Xiong’an campus. He said that the development of USTB cannot be achieved without the care and support of the alumni, and the university also attaches great importance to the work of alumni. In the next step, USTB will continue to visit alumni around the country, do a good job of service and liaison, and fully rely on alumni's strength to promote the university's high-quality development.

During his stay in Xiong’an, Prof. YANG and his delegation also visited TIMELOIT INC. in Xiong’an, an alumni company, and visited the site to construct the new campus. Ms. HE Jin, Director of Office of the Alumni Association and Office of the USTB Education Development Foundation, Mr. SHEN Yinan, Deputy Director of Xiong’an Campus Construction Project Command, and other relevant personnel from the Department of Admissions and Career Services, Office of the Alumni Association, School of Mechanical Engineering and other units accompanied the trip.
