On June 12th, the symposium on scientific innovation and international academic influence development between USTB and Elsevier was held in Administration Building. Mr. Peter Harrison, Senior Vice President of Elsevier; Ms. SUN Yan, Publishing Director in Materials Sciences of Elsevier; Prof. LYU Zhaoping, Vice President of USTB, attended the symposium. The symposium was presided over by Prof. ZHANG Dawei, Director of the USTB Office of International Affairs, presided over the symposium.

Prof. LYU Zhaoping made a remark
At the symposium, Prof. LYU Zhaoping warmly welcomed the arrival of Mr. Peter Harrison and his delegation and introduced the development history, discipline construction, and global network of USTB. Prof. LYU said that as a leading global publishing company, Elsevier has actively explored cooperative opportunities with Chinese universities and research institutes. He hoped to take this symposium as an opportunity to enhance communication and understanding and carry out further exchanges and cooperation on both sides.

Mr. Peter Harrison introduced the basic information of Elsevier and reviewed the cooperation history between USTB and Elsevier. He said that Elsevier is committed to helping researchers and academic institutions in all fields to advance open science for the benefit of humanity. He hopes to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with USTB in the fields such as “key fundamental disciplines”and“emerging interdisciplinary disciplines” so as to promote scientific and technological innovation, promote disciplinary development, and enhance the international influence of USTB.
During the discussion and exchange session, both sides carried out in-depth discussions on how to realize scientific innovation through academic journal construction and exchanged views on further deepening the cooperative relationship.

Visiting the University History Museum
After the symposium, Mr. Peter Harrison and his delegation visited the USTB History Museum to learn about the USTB’s development history and cultural traditions.
