12 USTB Courses Named National First-class Undergraduate Courses

Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses. 12 courses from USTB were selected,  among which “Academic English”, “Probability Theory” and “Mathematical Statistics” were selected as first-class online courses; “Virtual Simulation Experiment of Green Mining Paste Filling in Virtual Metal Mines”, “Virtual Simulation Experiment of Multi-scenario Unlimited Stock Trading”, and “Virtual Simulation Experiment of Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Design of Unmanned Vehicles” were selected as first-class experimental simulation courses; “Ferrous Metallurgy”, “Calculus A”, “Microbiology of Environmental Engineering” and “Human Resource Management” were selected as first-class offline courses; “Outline of Chinese Modern History” and “Electronic Technology Practice” were selected as first-class online and offline courses; and “College Students’ Social Practice Course” was selected as a first-class social practice course.

The first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses totaled 5,118, including 1,875 online first-class courses, 728 first-class experimental simulation courses courses, 1,463 offline first-class courses, 868 online and offline hybrid first-class courses and 184 first-class social practice courses. This is the first time the five national "Golden Courses" (online, offline, hybrid, simulation, social practice) have been rated together since the Ministry of Education clearly proposed "eliminating useless courses" and "creating high-quality courses" at the “Conference on Undergraduate Education of Chinese Universities in the New Era” in 2018 and launched the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of first-class undergraduate courses.

Of the five "Golden Courses", first-class online courses are open to universities and social learners; first-class offline courses aim to reform traditional classroom teaching through innovative teaching methods, emphasizing student-centered learning and stimulating classroom vitality; first-class online and offline hybrid courses are high-quality online courses combined with innovative on-campus courses to realize comprehensive learning. First-class experimental simulation courses effectively aim to solve the problem of being simulate previously unachievable tasks by deeply integrating modern information and artificial intelligence technology in experimental teaching. First-class courses in social practice aim at cultivating students' comprehensive ability, promoting the combination of ideological and political education, professional education and social service, and comprehensively cultivating students' awareness and ability to understand, study, serve society.
