Background:
National Environment and Energy International Science and Technology Cooperation Base (hereinafter referred to as the "Base") was approved in November 2010 by the International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The Base is administrated by University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), focusing on leading edge technology research in the field of environment and energy, working together with domestic and international research institutes, attracting outstanding researchers for work and cooperation together, developing independent intellectual property rights of environment and energy technologies and related products, forming a first-class research and development platform, providing the technology transfer and information service platform.
Research field:
Based on enterprise, provincial, national and international funded projects, the Base established 7 professional research laboratories in the research fields of water pollution control and resource management, solid waste treatment and recycling, industrial gas emission control and management, environmental biotechnology, industrial energy saving and renewable energy, environmental and ecological toxicology, environmental health, environmental planning and management and etc.
The Base envisioned itself to be a well-known research platform of excellence to conduct research on environmental and energy problems facing the local, nation and world.
Faculty:
The Base now has 81 permanent staff and 80 research fellows including 28 professors, 31 associate professors, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 foreign academician and 5 visiting professors of famous foreign scholars. Except that, two professors are in National Thousand-Person Program; two professor held the Excellent Youth of National Natural Science Foundation of China programme; two staff are in Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents under the Ten Thousands Plan; one professor is the candidate for the 100-person Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; one professor is in the Millions of Talent Projects Beijing Candidate list; two professors are the Famous Teaching Teacher in Beijing; two staff are in Beijing Science and Technology NOVA Training Program; two professors are in the program of Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education in the New Century.
The Base is very active for the international scientific and technological cooperation and academic exchanges, and has many partners from the United States, Germany, Britain, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Italy, France, Japan, South Korea, the European Union and the United Nations environmental protection agency (EPA), UNEP, and other countries and organizations. It has established a long-term, stable relations of cooperation, hosted and participated in many international academic conferences, formed a successful mode of "base - project - personnel training - achievements", vigorously promoted the scientific research level of the base.
The base actively cooperates with domestic and international first-class scientific research institutes and well-known companies including: California Institute of Technology, Yale University, Columbia University, the Johns Hopkins University, University of Cincinnati and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Duke University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Oklahoma, the German National Environment Research Center, Hamburg University of Technology, Germany International Biogas and Biomass Research Center, Sweden Stockholm Environment Institute, the British Imperial College, London University, University of Birmingham, University of West of England, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and 11 university in Paris, France, McGill University Canada, University of Calgary Canada, Hungary EOTVOS University, Japan Kyushu University; Foreign institutions and companies include: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation of the United States, German Technical Cooperation Company, German KFW Development Bank, German MUP Environmental Technology Consulting Company, French ACF Organization, Norwegian SOBY Company, Asian Development Bank (ADB), etc.
